How to connect a Technicolor router as a switch in my Google nest network

I have an Technicolor router from 2017 which I wanted to use as a acces point or switch.

So I just changed ip address in my Technicolor router so it got a ip similar to my Google nest, I set a 2 instead of a 1 in the end. And I turned off DHCP. But i can not see the technicolor in my Google home app, netiher can I log in on the 192.168.86.2 which is the ip addrrss I gave to the Technivolor.

Do someone know how I can continue?

Hi @Göran1,

Thank you for posting in the community. I understand you're trying to use your Technicolor router as an access point or switch with your Google Nest Wifi Mesh, and you've already configured its IP address and disabled DHCP. Let me provide you with some important information about the devices and the Google Home app.

The reason you cannot see the Technicolor router in the Google Home app or access its new IP address is because the app is designed to manage Google Nest/Wifi devices, not third-party hardware functioning as a simple switch or access point.

If you are able to configure it, it will extend your wired network (acting as a switch) and potentially your Wi-Fi network (acting as an access point if its Wi-Fi is enabled and broadcasting the same SSID/password as your Nest Wifi or a separate one).

Google's recommendation is to have only one device acting as a router on your home network to prevent issues like "double NAT." When two routers are both actively managing network traffic and assigning IP addresses (even if sharing the same Wi-Fi name), it can create conflicts and reduce overall network efficiency.

I hope this information helps you successfully extend your network with your Technicolor router and clarifies how these configurations work with your Google Nest Wifi system.

Regards,

Kevin
