I can’t add my Nest router back onto the Home app after factory reset

Hey everyone. I am so frustrated.  My whole google mesh failed after years of working fine. I’m using Google Nest Router, two google nest points and a google Wifi point. Today I could  connect to my google mesh Wifi network but could not get any Internet. This was after a couple of weeks with dropouts.

I’ve checked with my internet service provider and they’ve tested the signal to the house and my modem (which I’ve restarted several times. Apparently the signal to the house and the modem are fine.

I opened the Google Home app, and it said that my router and wifi points were all offline. Restarting the router didn’t solve the problem.

I tried everything that the Google help articles suggested and nothing worked. So, I decided to do a factory reset of the router. I tried following the instructions for re-adding the Nest router to the Home App, but everything comes to a halt at the select your device step.

My router is plugged in and I’m getting a slowly blinking white light, which they app says means it’s ready to be added. In the Home App I get to the page where it asks what kind of device do I want to add and I click on “WiFi”.The app then churns for awhile, and instead of taking me to the next page of instructions/actions, it reverts back to the page that asks me what kind of device do I want to add. So, I’m stuck!

Help please!!

Maybe look at the bottom of the "Devices" page on the app, it's possible that the wifi points are still listed there and unassigned.  Maybe that's why it can't add them again?

Thanks, Chucky44 for your response. Before I did the factory reset, the router and the three mesh extensions all showed up in the devices section. Each one had an exclamation mark beside it. When I did the factory reset, the router disappeared from the list of devices, but the three mesh extensions are still showing up. The problem is the app doesn’t seem to function properly to allow me to re-add the router.

ok, i'm guessing you checked if you have the latest app already?

If so, try uninstalling and re-installing the app before trying again?

Good idea. So, I just deleted and reinstalled the app, but the described behavior is identical. After I get to the “Looking for Devices” screen, and select “wifi” from the resultant list, the app looks like it’s getting ready for the next step, but instead reverts back to the Looking for Devices page. So, I’m still stuck.

I'm having this exact same issue, and it also started on Friday. Like you, I am so frustrated.  Definitely need to get this resolved ASAP.

I ended up buying a $60 TP-Link router, installed it in less than 30 minutes and we get better coverage throughout the house than the Google mesh network provided. Not sure I’d go back.
