I replaced my ISP router with Google WiFi (1st gen) and IPv6 doesn't work anymore

I've been using the Google WiFi "pucks" for years now without issues.

Recently, I changed ISP and he provided his own router. So, at first, I just connected my Google WiFi main into the provided router (double NATing with 2 routers back to back). Everything worked fine: IPv4 + IPv6 support.

So, a week ago, I decided to remove the ISP router and configure PPPoE directly in the Google WiFi router. It worked, but I don't get IPv6 anymore.

From the limited options we have, I can confirm IPv6 is ON in Google WiFi and the WAN is connected using PPPoE, but the Google WiFi only shows the IPv4 address, I don't any IPv6 assigned.

I discussed with other users of the same ISP and my suspicion is the following:
- ISP uses DHCPv6 (not SLAAC).
- Google WiFi (first gen) don't support IPv6 with PPPoE.

Before buying anything new, I would like to know if someone had/have similar issue. Or any tip on test or troubleshooting I could do.

Google WiFi Model: AC-1304
Google Firmware: 14150.376.32
My ISP: EBOX (Canada), FTTH.
ISP original router: Nokia WiFi Beacon 2 (Rev01)

Forgot one possible root cause:

Google WiFi (first gen) may be expecting SLAAC for IPv6 (not DHCPv6).

Hi LEKO,

Thank you for posting in the community. I'm sorry to hear that IPV6 is not working on your Google Router. Don't worry, I'm here to help.

Based on the information you shared with us, let me explain to you that Google Nest Wifi and Google Wifi use a dual-stack implementation, which means that IPv4 traffic and IPv6 traffic may coexist on the same network (both wired and wireless). Google Nest Wifi and Google Wifi do not support IPv6 transitional protocols such as 6to4 or 6rd. Additionally, Google Nest Wifi and Google Wifi do not support IPv4 over IPv6 or IPv6+.

For more information about what you need to support IPV6, please check this: IPV6

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Regards,

Kevin
