Levoit Air Purifier will not connect to WIFI network - can I add the MAC address to Google Nest?

I have two Levoit Air Purifiers that will not connect automatically to my Google Wifi Pro network.    They do require a 2.4GHz network.    One option they suggest is too add the MAC address of the device to the router and they do supply that.   How/can I do this with Google Nest?

Hi @StuartAAustin

You're correct that Levoit Air Purifiers might require a 2.4 GHz network for setup, while Google Wifi Pro primarily uses a 5 GHz band for better performance. There are a few ways to approach connecting your Levoit Air Purifiers to your Google Wifi Pro network:

1. Guest Network (2.4 GHz):

  • Google Wifi Pro allows creating a separate guest network that broadcasts on the 2.4 GHz band. This is ideal for devices that don't support 5 GHz or have connectivity issues on the 5 GHz band. Here's how to set up a guest network:
    • Open the Google Home app on your phone or tablet.
    • Tap on your Wifi network name (SSID).
    • Go to "Settings" or "Network settings" (depending on the app version).
    • Look for an option to "Add guest network" or "Manage guest network".
    • Enable the guest network and configure the settings like network name (SSID) and password. You can choose to broadcast it on the 2.4 GHz band only.
    • Once the guest network is set up, connect your Levoit Air Purifiers to this network during their initial setup process.

2. Temporary Connection to 5 GHz Band (if applicable):

  • Some Levoit Air Purifiers might allow you to connect them to a 5 GHz network during the initial setup process only. Once connected, they might be able to switch to a 2.4 GHz network automatically for future use.
    • Check your Levoit Air Purifier's user manual or support website for instructions on connecting to a 5 GHz network during setup.
    • After the initial setup is complete on the 5 GHz network, see if the purifier maintains the connection or automatically switches to a compatible network (2.4 GHz).

3. MAC Address Filtering (Limited Use):

  • While Levoit suggests adding the purifier's MAC address to the router, this method has limitations with Google Wifi Pro. Google Wifi Pro prioritizes automatic device connection management and might not restrict devices based solely on MAC addresses in most situations.

Here are some additional resources that might be helpful:

By trying these suggestions, you should be able to connect your Levoit Air Purifiers to your Google Wifi Pro network. If you continue to have trouble, contacting Levoit support for further assistance with their devices' network compatibility might be helpful.

Best,

Brandon.
