NO SOLUTION - Nest Wifi Pro = Slow ETHERNET / Wired Connection

There are a lot of posts about slow connectivity, but NO SOLUTION. The only solution seems to be getting a different router, which I am just about to do.  Has ANYONE been able to figure out why some wired connections are so slow?

My connectivity issues are based off of the connectivity using an old TP Link Archer c5 and 600mbps from the ISP (Spectrum).

All the hardware meet requirements to (desktop, switches and cables).  Again, even if they didn't, a 6 year old router provided speeds of 500mbps on all devices.

  • Cables = Cat6 cables: ALL device speeds < 80mbps
  • New cables = Cat5e
    • 80mbps - 500mbps

@David_K  Regarding advanced troubleshooting:

  • Your Internet Service Provider requires something called VLAN tagging, which may require additional equipment for setup.
  • Your Internet Service Provider uses something called PPPoE which may experience authentication issues.

my ISP claims their service is fine so they won't help me troubleshoot.  Google support does not go over ISP configurations.   Can you tell me who is supposed to know this? Or how I can solve this issue? Please!

Hi UnicornParty,

Thanks for reaching out. Sorry or the trouble you're having with your Google Nest Wifi Pro. It can definitely be frustrating when your devices aren't working as expected. To help diagnose the issue, could you tell me: Have you already run a speed test directly on the router itself? If you're using switches, can you temporarily disconnect them to see if the issue persists?

Here are a few things you can attempt:

  • Ensure all ethernet cables are securely plugged into the correct ports on your router and devices
  • Check interference: Some electronic devices can cause interference with wifi signals, even when connected by cable. Try moving your Nest Wifi Pro away from other electronics and see if it improves your internet speed.
  • Change DNS Settings: Changing your DNS server can sometimes improve internet speed.
  • Power cycle your router: Unplug the ethernet cable and power cord from the parent point for about 2 minutes. Then, plug them back in and wait for the router to reboot completely.

Please let me know how it goes after trying these steps.

Regards,

Jonathan
