Nest Mesh System Dropping Internet Daily

Quick caveat. I'm a systems Engineer so know my way around tech. For the past 4 months or so, my mesh system (6 Nest Routers) have been dropping Internet at least once daily. A Google search shows this is a widespread problem with the only 'solution' being to do a reboot, reset etc. I've done all of that. I reset all routers 3 days ago and the Internet was actually up for 2.5 days until today.  The only thing that fixes this temporarily is to reboot the primary router.

I have T-Mobile home Internet so I do have double NAT.  But this issue according to multiple posts around the world is much larger than that.

Obviously Google is aware of it and has been for some time. Question is, are they actively trying to solve it or is it tough luck? If the ladder, I need to find a new system.

No solution here, but I'll jump on the pile.  (3) Nest Pro deployed 2 weeks ago to replace Nest hockey pucks.  It doesn't work very well, but at least they cost a lot of money! 🤔  Occasional internet drops, but speeds have Dramatic fluctuations.  Nest cams disconnect for hours at a time.  Have tried system reboot and factory reset to no avail.

I’ve been having this exact same issue. The internet connection will suddenly drop but my ISP says no issues on their side and even the Google Home app says everything is working ok which is clearly isn’t. I can restore the connection by restarting the google router which suggests it is a google issue but i can’t keep doing that and need a stable internet connection for working from home. Spent a lot of money on google nest WiFi points but now thinking i’m going to have to rip all out and replace with NetGear.

It's back to happening every day. Today I was in the middle of giving my co-workers an update on Zoom. Then BAM! Lost connection. The only thing that fixes it is rebooting the main Google router.

I've always been a fan of Google but I can't work like this. Am researching alternatives. TP-Link, Netgear and Asus are the top 3. Anyone have experience with any of them?

I got OTP with a Google tech and did "all the things."  Worked great for a day, then this morning it was right back to on and off service (modem still holding 800Mbps steady), and inability to test mesh (Error: Unable to test mesh: Is your router plugged in? - while showing all APs have 'great' signal).  (3) Nest Pro (1) Big fail. <sigh>

Hi folks,

Thanks for raising your concerns in the community.

Having your router unable to provide the speeds you need can certainly be frustrating. Let's gather some more information so we can tackle this and get you back on track.

First, to rule out your ISP and modem as the problem, try a speed test directly from the modem by wiring a computer or laptop via Ethernet. You should be getting around 80% of your expected speed from that.

I want to know if you experience these speed drops on devices connected to Wi-Fi only, or if you also encounter them on wired devices. Knowing this will help us determine if your router is dropping the connection and pinpoint the cause.

As a general tip, I suggest checking the wires and ports connecting your main router to the modem for damage. Ensure these cables are CAT5e or CAT6. If your mesh network is completely wired, verify that all devices are plugged into LAN ports as well.

Let me know how it goes.

Regards,

Angel.

Hi Angel,

This thread has nothing to do with speed. It's about the Google mesh router dropping Internet. Rather than providing a generic copy and past response as you obviously did, please read the OP and follow up posts. You'll find that 100% of your questions have already been answered.

We all welcome any 'genuine' feedback you can provide about this widespread issue.

Having literally the exact same issue, using Tmobile 5G internet with 1 Nest wifi router and 2 access points.  It used to be rare that we had to power cycle everything, but it's getting more and more frequent and now it's every few days.  Today had Tmobile ping the modem and do a speedtest and we are getting slightly better than the prescribed 300Mb down to the modem, but inside the house it drops to barely over 100Mb.  The primary node (the router) always remains functional and connected to the modem, but the access points start to drop off.  The speed drop combined with the access points getting flaxy are always my indication that it's time to power cycle.....again.....even though it's only been a few days.

These devices are not cheap and Google should do better than "walk us through some of 1990s favorite troubleshooting steps."

Returned from vacation 11 days ago. 11 days and not a single drop that I'm aware of. I tried finding Google's update history but no luck. Something positive happened. Was ready to pull the trigger on TP Link AXE5400 3 pack but am holding off.

Anyone aware of a recent update?

I didn't get the memo, but I've gone to resetting my network every week just to keep it stable so I'll certainly know if things improve over time.

Hello Folks

Thank you for posting in the community.

I know how difficult it is that you are experiencing dropping connection with your Google WiFi device, I appreciate your effort in trying to troubleshoot the devices on your own.

You can follow the information below to see what may be causing the issue:

Overcrowded Network: Having too many devices connected to your Wi-Fi network can lead to congestion and slowdowns. Consider disconnecting unused devices or exploring options like guest Wi-Fi networks to manage connected devices.

Reduce interference from other electronics: If the Wi-Fi signal seems strong but then suddenly drops, that could be a symptom of frequency interference. Frequency interference is when another wireless signal passes through the customer's home on a similar bandwidth to their Wi-Fi network, and overpowers or corrupts the Wi-Fi signal.

Try to change the password on Google Wifi's network by following the next link: Change Wi-Fi password

Try to change the DNS: Changing these settings from the Google home app may fix the issue, you can follow the steps in this link: Change your DNS

And if you can please make sure to double-check the modem to verify if it's a modem, modem and router combo, or router. This is very important to avoid  double NAT issues, you can get more information on this link: Fix Double NAT when two routers run at the same time.

Please follow the steps above and let me know how it goes.

Regards,

Jeremy
