Nest WiFi Router connect as point is failing

djenkins

I have a Nest Wifi network with 1 Nest Router (working), 1 Nest Point (working), and 1 Nest Router as a point (unable to get working and connect to the mesh network).

I am unable to get the additional Nest Router to connect to the WiFi network as a point. I've performed a factory reset on the router and tried reconnecting with no luck. There's currently a pulsing white light which means it's ready for setup. I go to add a new device, scan the QR code and it tries to connect to WiFi but fails with this message - "Connection failed: Couldn't connect to the device. Try again to tap get help for more solutions".

I've referenced other posts where people have said to force close the Google Home app, connect to the device in my phone's WiFi settings, and try the setup again, but have had no luck. I've also forgotten the WiFi network on my iPhone and tried to reconnect with no luck as well. When I factory reset the Nest Router, I did the manual button on the router method.

I've tried to get this working for several weeks on and off and am still unable to get it working. I also recently setup the entire network from scratch to see if I could get it working but still unable to add the Router as a point.

Please help me 🙂

Hey everyone,

Thanks for posting ― let's get this sorted out.

A few questions: how far is the additional point from the main point? Is this the first time adding the point into your network?

Could you try to hardwire the additional point to the Google Nest Wifi router during the setup process? You can unplug the Ethernet cable once the setup is complete.

Best,

Mel

I too am having this same issue. Just bought the 3-pack and can’t get the other two points to connect with the main one.
It discovers the point, I scam the QR code then it says wifi connection failed. I’ve even tried it with the point right next to the main point.

I was able to get it working using this suggestion. Thanks so much for the help.

Hey djenkins,

Awesome — glad to hear that your issue is fixed. It looks like we can consider this one complete, so I will lock the thread shortly unless I can help out with anything else.

I tried plugging in an either cable and still wasn’t able to get it working. Maybe my units are broken.

Hi SS707,

Could you reinstall the Google Home app? If the issue persists, factory reset your Google Nest Wifi point then add it again.

Best,

Mel
