Nest WiFi and Youtube don’t work well.

When I use YouTube and have over 300 down and 190 up but the app will only allow 480p most of the time and buffers constantly. I just bought this nest WiFi and it’s great but in this one case Youtube is useless in this house. I so disappointed in this product.

I’ve had this issue since I bought the Nest WiFi Pro system. I’ve had it a few weeks now and  spent 500 dollars on the system and got additional mesh points and wish I would have never bought it.

Hi Dshart,

Apologies for the delay. We understand your frustration, especially after investing in a new system like Google Nest Wifi Pro and still experiencing issues with YouTube playback. It's important to consider all possibilities before concluding the entire system is "useless." Here are some additional thoughts and suggestions:

1. Let's narrow things down:

  • Isolate YouTube: Try streaming other video content from different platforms (Netflix, Hulu, etc.) on the same device. If they play smoothly, it might indicate an issue specific to the YouTube app or its interaction with your network.
  • Test Different Devices: Use other devices like laptops, tablets, or smart TVs connected to the same network and see if YouTube playback improves. This can help identify if the issue is specific to a particular device or account.

2. Advanced Troubleshooting:

  • DNS Settings: Try changing your DNS settings on your Nest Wifi router or the device you're using for YouTube. Use a public DNS server like Google DNS (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4) and see if it makes a difference.
  • Temporary Disable VPN/Firewall: If you're using a VPN or firewall, temporarily disable them to see if they might be interfering with YouTube traffic. Remember to re-enable them afterwards for security.

3. Considering Alternatives:

  • Wired Connection: If possible, connect your device directly to the Nest Wifi router using an Ethernet cable. This can bypass potential Wi-Fi interference and provide a more stable connection for streaming.
  • Contact YouTube Support: If the issue persists solely with YouTube, reach out to their support team. They might have insights into specific app settings or troubleshooting steps related to their platform.

Let us know how it goes.

Best,

Dan
