Nest Wifi Point keeps disconnecting from Wifi network

I have used the Nest Wifi setup for almost a year and just this past week the Nest Wifi Point keeps disconnecting from the Wifi daily. Once it disconnects, it will affect the connectivity of the devices connected to it. Devices near or seemingly connected to the Nest Wifi router are not affected.

While the daily disconnect is irritating, the devices connected to it cannot be routed to the Nest Wifi router is more concerning. Please look into this matter.

This was a known issue a couple of years ago.  I had worked with my ISP thinking it was a problem with them.  Finally found info on the issue, which had no fix.  I love my Google home system, but had to replace the Nest WiFi with another brand; never had the problem since…

Yes. I am thinking of replacing the Nest Wifi to other brands in next few months.

Hey everyone,

Thanks for posting — let's see what's going on.

Are you using a modem/router combo from your Internet Service Provider (ISP)? How many devices are dropping from the network? Also, do you have any paused devices?

Give these steps a try:

  1. If you're using a modem/router combo, set that to bridge mode to avoid double NAT issues.
  2. Make sure that there is minimal to no interference (concrete, bulletproof glass, metal, mirror, etc.) and the points are no more than two rooms apart.
  3. Remove any special characters in your network name and password.
  4. Turn off IPv6.
  5. Change your DNS server into 8.8.8.8 on the primary and 8.8.4.4 on the secondary server. Hit the save/ floppy disk icon on the upper right.
  6. Unplug the power from your Google Wifi devices for 2 minutes.
  7. If the issue persists, try factory resetting your network.

Let us know how it goes.

Best,

Mel

Google support had me do all of this, ran diagnostics, and finally decided it was my ISP.  The ISP sent technicians out several times to check the modem/router and line, and all was good.  I finally bought a Netgear Orbi system, connected it with no change to the ISP equipment, and have not had a single issue.  ThecNwst equipment has been in a box for over a year; it is all still in my Google Home app, but I don’t want to hook it back up to remove it…

Hi VirgilH,

Thanks for getting back to us. I suggest you remove the offline network and setup your Google Nest Wifi network again so we can check what's happening when its setup like a new network.

Best,
Mel
