Nest Wifi Pro Devices Connected to Speakers?

WendMan

I don't understand how the new Wifi Pro works with other devices.  Right now, I can interact with the second wifi point in my bedroom to turn off lights, hear music, check the weather, etc.  It seems that the new router does not have speaker capabilities.  Does that mean that in addition to a second Pro Router in my bedroom (far end of the house from the main router) I will have to buy  an additional hub or speaker to be able to control my smart devices from my bedroom?

Hello @WendMan

The new Nest WiFi Pro does not include smart speaker features. It only provides network connectivity via WiFi and Ethernet. Since your main router will be at one end of the house, I would place a second unit closer to the middle of the house, and then place something like a Nest Mini speaker in your bedroom for smart speaker features.

Hey WendMan,

You're correct in noting that there's no speaker on the Nest WiFi Pro. For handling voice commands across your network, your mobile device will handle the voice commands. While I realize this is different than what you're accustomed to doing, if you wanted a speaker to handle your commands you would need to add one to your network in the bedroom.

If you have any other questions, let me know.

Thanks,
Jeff

I appreciate and understand the responses. I see that Google is having a big sale on speakers; perhaps because it understands that some users will be unhappy at having to buy additional stuff.  A related question: Based on experience, I will need a second router in my back bedroom when/if I upgrade from my current setup, and I will also need a speaker/command device. That being said, are there any clear advantages to staying with Google for the upgraded routers, as opposed to expanding consideration to other brands? I have a second gen Hub and a Nest wireless doorbell, if that makes any difference, and would probably stick with Google speakers.  Is it simpler/easier to stick with Google routers? Thanks.

Hi WendMan,

Thanks for getting back to us.

The Google Nest Wifi Pro doesn't have Google Assistant built-in and you may need an additional Google Nest Hub in your bedroom in place of your Google Nest Wifi point. Also, the internet speed and network connectivity on the Google Nest Wifi devices are still one of the best in the market. If you're in need of the Wi-Fi 6E feature, then we suggest you upgrade.

Best,

Mel
