Nest Wifi Pro issue

rybanks
Community Member

Hi, wondering if anyone can help....

I have had the Nest Pro WiFi 3 pack for about a month now and it has worked absolutely fine apart from one issue. The main Nest router is connected by wire to our Sky broadband hub and then the mesh routers are connected wirelessly. I have switched off the WiFi from the Sky hub. Speed is on  average 55mbs down and about 10 up.

Our issue is:

We have a Sky Q box, when we are downloading anything on the Sky Q box nothing else can use the internet. There is a connection but the speed is slow on all other devices that they are un-useable. We have iPhones and iPads, windows laptops and desktops. They all struggle to even load the google home page.

Pause the download on the Sky Q box and everything comes back to life. There is nothing prioritised in the Google Home app, and even prioritising another device doesn't help. We never had this problem when just using the Sky hub.

Can't find anyone else having this issue so hopefully it is something obvious that I've missed.

Hello rybanks,

Thanks for reaching out. I'm sorry for this experience.

Please check and make sure that there are no Preferred activities on your Google Home app. Change the DNS server to 8.8.8.8 on your primary servers and 8.8.4.4 on your secondary servers, respectively. Once done, perform a 2-minute power cycle by following this guide:

  1. Disconnect the power from the modem.
  2. Disconnect the Ethernet cable and power cord from the parent point.
  3. Disconnect the power cord from the child points.
  4. Leave everything unplugged for 2 minutes.
  5. Connect the power cord to the modem, then to your router and points.

Let me know how it goes.

Cheers,
Lovely

Hi rybanks,

Have you tried the troubleshooting steps that I suggested? Let me know if that did the trick or not, so we can try something else.

Cheers,

Hi Lovely M,

Thanks for the reply.

The DNS settings are set to automatic, and there are no preferred activities.

I have done the power cycle as you suggested and everything seems fine at the moment so hopefully that is all it was!

thank you
