Nest Wifi WAN Static IP Not Saved

klavergne
Community Member

I just moved. I had my Nest Wifi set up at my old house, and I'm trying to set it up at my new one. My old house just used DHCP for the WAN settings, but my new ISP requires static IP address. I've followed the instructions on how to change the WAN settings for my Nest Wifi to static IP, but it doesn't work. Once I hit Save on the screen it appears to be saved. I then go back to the main settings and tap WAN settings again, and it says that it reverted back to DHCP. And after doing that I no longer have an Internet connection.

Hey, all.

Sorry for the issues you're having with the Home app saving your network settings. As you all are seeing the same issue, I'm going to go ahead and alert an internal team to see if I can get some guidance on this one. I'll update the thread as soon as I know more.

Thanks.

almost April 2022 and no solution?

So what's the solution then? Or do we just sit here and **bleep** off?

The aolution is to reset and disconnect the main router. After that you should reprogram it to the configuration that you want. Then you should reset the 2 access points adnt set them up to connect to your main router. I wish Google operated like the old days and was more into open source but those days are gone.

Any resolution on the matter. I just bought a google nest for a static IP setup and like others the router does not want to save the setting on Google Home App on iOS device.

Hi Farhad, I have no luck changing my setting however, I set it up as a new network (same id and password so existing devices thought it was the same network ) I selected the PPPoE option in the set up and it worked great. Disappointing that the settings can't be changed for the existing set up but can definitely get it working with a new set up.

Same issue and same result.  No help from Google either. 😖

I had the same issue; it wouldn't save the static IP address. Until I hooked it to my old network/gateway that was configured with DHCP then it connected properly via DHCP and it would then allow me to set it to a static IP address and it saved properly.

I agree by now you know the issue.

I had a similar issue. Even after I enter the static IP, the save button is grayed out.

This occurs on iPadOS

Hi, all.

For everyone still seeing issues here, can you let me know if you're using iOS or Android to manage settings?

Thanks.

Thanks for confirming the platform. That helps. I'll get that passed along to our teams.

We were mostly seeing this in iOS, but there are enough reports on Android that the issue is definitely not limited to platform. Thanks to everyone who keeps adding to the information we have here, it really does help.

Hey, everyone.

We have a lot of new reports that I'm noticing and I'm still keeping an eye on things. Unfortunately I still don't have news of when a fix might be ready, but I'm hoping to hear something sooner than later. I know this is frustrating for all of you. I'll share when I know more.

Thanks.

Well you've had about 2 years. Found a fix yet? **bleep**ing joke

Android

Android.

It seems that the Nest WiFi app is not verifying the settings when you click save. If incorrect config. it seems like the config has been saved but in reality it should show an exception/alert dialog.

I am having the same issue with both an android and an iPad

I'm using Android. Struggling with this with my local network that needs to be on the same IP range as before, but now I have two because no settings will hold in the Nest.

Same issue. Android and iphone. I'm a Google Nest Pro dealer. This sucks.

I just bought a nest router and a wifi point. I have followed the instructions and it works with DHCP but I want to configure it with an static IP.
I understand that in order to change this setting the ethernet wire (connected to the WAN port in the nest and to the a LAN port in my router's provider) must be disconnected and then in the Home App change the setting. However this option stays gray, so I'm unable to change it.

I've tried in an andriod phone and iphone. Also, I can't change the LAN settings.

Hello! Just thinking about this... Is your router a combo router/modem device, like what Comcast provides to Xfinity customers? If so, is it in bridge mode? Because if it is, your static IP is likely dialing the nest wifi firewall and it stays grey so that you don't have such a vulnerable connection... Just saying dhcp is your friend.

I have the same problem. PPPoe settings not being saved both on iOS and Android. I have 3 Google Wifi points that I have reset and on all of them I have the same problem, no matter which unit I use as a router.
