Nest Wifi point setup

I cannot add a Nest Wifi point to my network. It was working but after a factory reset I cannot add it. Scanning the QR code on the Nest router doesn't work and there is no setup code. I'm beyond frustrated with this as I've not been able to find any documentation to help.

Try these steps:

  1. Power off your modem or modem/router combo.
  2. Power off all your routers and points.
  3. Wait 30 seconds (no seriously, it sounds slightly strange I know).
  4. Power on your modem and wait for it to fully power on.
  5. Power on just your router or primary wifi point and wait for it to fully power on,
  6. Power on 1 of your troublesome additional points.
  7. If the LED isn't slowly pulsing white, use the physical button on the device to factory reset it.
  8. Follow the "Add a point or an additional router" in the "Set up your Nest Wifi router" section of this help article.

If you still experience issues:

  1. Factory reset your current router or primary wifi point.
  2. Retry setup with the troublesome point to see if they will successfully setup as the primary point.

Occasionally, this allows the device to download a firmware update which has been known to resolve some of these issues.

The setup key isn't printed it's engraved into the rubber ring on the bottom so can be pretty hard to see. If it's definitely not there after one more peek, with plenty of light, I'd recommend that you contact the Google Nest support team.

  1. Go to Contact Us - Google Nest Help
  2. Select an appropriate product or category, type a brief description of the issue, then click Next.
  3. Click Other, then click Next step.
  4. In the Resources section, click Next step.
  5. Choose to get a phone call, call or chat with the team, depending on availability in your country.

Thank you, but I'm following these steps.  When I get to #8 and from the linked article, this is where I get stopped -

    • If you're unable to scan the QR code, tap Continue without scanning, then enter the setup key on the bottom of your device.

The QR code on my Nest router doesn't work for this, and there is no 8 digit code on the bottom of either the Wifi Point or the router.  In fact, there is nothing printed on the bottom of the Wifi point.

Thanks

That did it. Thank you so much. Can’t understand why Google‘s documentation can’t state that somewhere.

Thanks for the prompt reply. I had to wipe my unit with a damp rag before I could see the faint engraving. All sorted now though. Cheers

I am having the same exact issue except that the setup key is embossed on the gray bottom under the QR code sticker. It is 8 digits long. But when I imput that number it asks for a 11-21 long setup code NOT 8 digits!!!

During the initial setup in the Google Home app, just to confirm, you selected Google Nest or partner device and not matter-enabled device?

It should then search for devices. If it doesn't find your device, you might then need to select Wi-Fi, then select Nest Wifi router or Nest Wifi point as the device you're setting up.
