Nest is reporting excessive data use to my ISP > 80GB/day from iphone

I know this issue has been raised before but those conversations are closed and it does not appear as though Google has resolved the issue.  I've been using Google nest wifi (second generation) since 2020 without issue. This month it started reporting >80 GB of down load data from my iphone to my ISP.  I'm home less than 12 hours a day, do not stream movies, music or game.  Other apps that monitor data has my phone wifi use at well under < 1 GB a day yet Google home app show > 80 GB/day of download data.  I've spoken to Apple and my ISP who have strongly pointed the finger at Google Nest.  Please advise.

I understand that you are having an issue with your Google Nest Wifi showing incorrect data usage for your iPhone. I can see that you have already spoken to Apple and your ISP, and they have both pointed the finger at Google Nest.

I have checked my knowledge, and it seems that this is a known issue that Google is still working on resolving. There are a few things you can try in the meantime:

  • Restart your Google Nest Wifi and your iPhone.
  • Make sure that your iPhone is connected to the 5GHz network, not the 2.4GHz network.
  • Disable Wi-Fi Assist or Smart Network Switch on your iPhone.
  • Check for updates for the Google Home app and your iPhone's operating system.

If you are still having issues after trying these steps, you can contact Google Nest support for further assistance.

Here are the links to the support pages for Google Nest Wifi and the Google Home app:

I hope this helps!

Hi everyone,

Thanks for the input, MsDrasby.

BabsMN, have you had the chance to do the suggestions above? If yes, how was it?

Regards,
Alex

Those suggestions did not work!  I have purchased a new router (NOT A NEST) and tossed out Nest.  I don't have time to baby sit a router and to problem solve it every other day. Easier to buy a new one.  The new router allows easy connection to home smart devices as it provides a clear seperate 2.4 vs 5  Network.  Able to set up new devices in minuets instead of hours.
