Nest wifi point vs router

Arunm
Community Member

Hi, I have 3 nest wifi point ( 2 in first floor and 1 in second floor) and 1 nest router connected to bell router ( in basement). In basement I am getting very week internet.  Is the nest wifi connected to bell router will not serve as wifi point ?

The nest wifi router is also a wifi point yes.  For your Bell modem, did you disable the wireless transmitter? This is important as it could cause wireless interference as well as double nat issues.   Is your basement nest router located away from heat ducts/electrical panels?

I have a similar setup, nest wifi router on main floor wired to Rogers modem, points on 2nd and 3rd floors.  Note that the wireless tests in the Google home app aren't great, and can give misleading results.

Thanks for your reply. It is near electric panel. I am not sure how to disable wireless tramitter in bell will find that out. In basement the Netflix video streaming is very poor I am not going by Google app test

Okay yeah , would suggest moving it away from the panel.  Also for the bell router, if it's Bell Canada then try this page

Thanks Again. I disabled the router transmitter and moved the nest router from electric panel . As long as stand straight to the router the speed is excellent. My projector is back of the furnace room I believe that is causing the interference and dropping the signal

Yeah so the furnace (and probably the duct work attached to it) are blocking the signal, I am not too surprised they are basically large faraday cages

Sorry about the late reply. If I keep another nest point in basement perpendicular to the NEST router will it help ?

Thanks

It's possible it may help, but the proximity of the furnace and duct work does make it more difficult.  If that area is unfinished, I would strongly recommend running ethernet cable to the projector, which would give you full speed with no interference.
