Operation timed out and couldn't be completed-Google Nest Wifi

I have a Nest Wifi system and have the router and one point working perfectly. I'm trying to add another point and I get all the way through the process until the last step where it says it's taking care of the final bits. That runs for a couple of minutes and then the operation times out.

I've reset the point 10X, rebooted the network 10X, it's the same result each time.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to get this to work?

Hi folks,

Thanks for reaching out. I'm sorry to hear that you're having issues with setting up your Google WiFi points. I see that you already tried some troubleshooting steps to resolve this. I'd love to know more about this, and I have a few questions:

  • What is the light status of the point that you're setting up?
  • How far is it from the parent point?
  • What's the OS version of the device you're using to set it up?

Looking forward to your response.

Thanks,

Edward

Hi, I'm running in the same issue. To answer your questions:

  • What is the light status of the point that you're setting up? — Pulsing light
  • How far is it from the parent point? — Tried same room / next room setups
  • What's the OS version of the device you're using to set it up? — iOS 15.2.1

I tried to set it up also with Android 9 device but wasn't able to create the mesh network either. Any help will be appreciated.

Hi Lukas,

Thanks for letting us know about what's happening. Just to clarify, is the message that you're getting about creating the mesh network? If you already set up the parent point, it's not supposed to create a new one. To isolate the issue, please make sure that you're adding the point to the same home structure where the parent point is set up.

Thanks,

Edward

Hi Jeff, I managed to make it work after several tries (changing rooms, devices, and reseting devices, …). Eventually it worked when using the home app on iPad. If anything, the experience was cumbersome and felt like a pure luck. No idea what was the issue and how I could help anyone else in the future. Just keep trying and fingers crossed.

Sorry I didnt see this thread before. I was able to fix this issue by creating a custom room and using a new name that didnt exist in my profile already. I found the solution online. Seems like someone worked with Nest customer support and were informed of a bug in the code causing the conflict. But probably Google fixed the code since and hence people are not hitting the same bug anymore. But if you do, I suggest following the approach I did.
