Problems since recent update - 14150.883.17

Hello,

My mesh of 3 google nest routers has worked amazing for over 12 months now. But last week, around Tuesday 22nd October, I started having issues with anything that needs real-time connectivity, e.g. MS Teams and Live Sports. It is only a very short blip, and so isn't noticed by anything that can buffer, such as youtube, but it will happen 6 times in a half hour meeting, causing me to freeze in meetings.

I've Factory reset the Mesh Wifi, disabled IPv6, set DNS to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 as recommended in previous threads, then reset DNS back to "Automatic". I also tried DNS set to "ISP". None of these has fixed the issue. There are no reported issues by my fibre provider, and I restarted my ONT just in case.

The Green lights on my ONT never indicate anything other than Green for "Connected".

is it a coincidence that software version 14150.883.17 came out on 21st October, and my mesh routes are all showing that version? That's right about when my problems started.

I live in New Zealand if that makes a difference. If it doesn't make a difference... I still live in New Zealand 😉

I funnily enough also live in NZ and have also had the same problems for roughly the same time (just over a week). I have surmised that the issues are caused by the update based on a few reddit posts re the firmware update. I haven't gone through all the troubleshooting steps like you have but have actually just bought a different mesh network off TradeMe and hoping that it'll fix the issue.

Will report back once I have received and installed my new network.

With 2degrees as an ISP if it helps your quest.

Farewell Google nest, was good while it lasted.

Thanks @expecto,

A friend sold me an unwanted router (not a wifi router) and I connected that to my ONT. I then plugged the google nest into the router. The problem has gone away. I’m not an expert but it’s something to do with how the nest interacted with the ONT post the update.
I’m glad you were able to get sorted, it’s just a shame it cost your money and trust in an otherwise good product.
I’m not angry google, just disappointed.

Precisely the same issue for me. Not the first time Google have destroyed my rock solid mesh network with an update. Based on previous experience it could take months to get this sorted. I'm buying a mesh network from another provider, I can't bear to have these issues again.
