Renew DHCP impossible?

ConnectionFUBAR

My router won't connect to the internet. The modem is online, my connection works when I bypass the router and plug the modem directly into my computer. The router seems to be stuck on an IP address that isn't valid. Is there a way to force a DHCP renewal? Rebooting the router doesn't do it. I tried changing the WAN settings to a static IP in hopes of switching back to DHCP, but the app just gives me a spinning circle forever when trying to save the settings. I'm getting really frustrated here.

Hello ConnectionFUBAR,

Thanks for reaching out. We'd love to help.

A few questions: are you using a modem-router combo? What's your Internet service provider? Were you able to set up your Google Nest Wifi router before?

Please check with your ISP since they may need to provision Nest Wifi to their modem. You may also try to enable bridge if you are using a modem-router combo. Check out this article for more information.

Let me know how it goes.

Sincerely,
Lovely

are you using a modem-router combo?

Just a modem

What's your Internet service provider?

Wave/Astound

Were you able to set up your Google Nest Wifi router before?

Yes, it was working just fine until it wasn't.

I was able to connect as expected after doing a factory reset on the router and starting over. I still can't wrap my head around why that was necessary just to get a new IP address from the modem.

Hey ConnectionFUBAR,

Sorry about this and we'll take your experience as feedback. I'm glad your Google Nest Wifi router is now working. If you have additional questions or concerns, feel free to create a new post.

Regards,
Lovely
