Robo vac connection at 2.5 ghz

Both of my robo vacuum cleaners connect @2.5 ghz. I am unable to connect them through the app because my phone is not on the same 2.5 ghz network, it connects to 5.ghz. What is the work around other than walking to edge of network in HOPES of it connecting because that failed also.

What brand and model?

Other than the mentioned workaround, you could:

  • Add a 2.4ghz only access point to your network. Could be an old router in access point mode, a dedicated access point, a repeater with ethernet ports with ability to run as access point only.
  • Use an old router, set it up with 2.4ghz SSID only, same SSID and password as your Nest Wifi. Connect vacuum cleaners to it. Then turn it off, turn on Nest Wifi again.
  • Buy IoT devices from manufacturers, or ask manufacturer to support, combined SSIDs for 2.4ghz and 5ghz, which is a common Wi-Fi feature these days.

Seems like 2.4ghz is a hard requirement for the setup process.

I wouldn't wait for Google to make it easier to connect equipment with such requirements. Try the listed workarounds, ask iLife to make the setup process work with combined SSIDs, or get a different Wi-Fi solution. Or different vacuum cleaners, Roborock has been working great with Nest Wifi for me.

Hi folks,

@olavrb, thanks for the help!

@Rmitchum, how's it going? Were you able to try doing the workarounds to connect your devices?

Thanks,

Edward

Hey everyone,

It looks like we've slowed down here. We'll be closing up the thread in the next day unless anyone else has any input or needs anything else. If so, just let me know and we can keep this open a bit longer.

Thanks,
Jeff
