Same name wifi

I called my Nest Wifi the same as my original wifi and gave it the same password (as I didn't want to re-set every device on the network).

How do I know it's working and all the devices are not simply connected to the original wifi?

And if they're not connected to the Nest Wifi (which they appear not to be), how do I connect them to it?

You're connecting the Nest via wire to your original router/modem?  If you are, turn off the wifi on the original router.  That way you'll know it's connecting to the Nest.
