Here's the end state I am trying to achieve: Modem connected to Interned is connected to my Sophos Firewall to the WAN port. The second (LAN) port on the Firewall is connected to an unmanaged Switch which has the Nest Wifi Pro (Router) connected to it. The wireless clients and then connected to the mesh network and I wish the traffic to flow to the firewall before traversing to the internet (safe searching for children). that is the desired approach.
However the only way I could complete the automated setup of the Nest Wifi Pro Router was to create a rule on the firewall for the Nest Wifi Router to go direct to the WAN. Which worked and I could happily connect to Wifi and surf the net - however this bypassed the default firewall Rules as the wifi client traffic piggybacked the Nest Wifi Pro Router rule to go direct.
Does any one know if there is a way to access the router to set it up to go via my default safe rules - is there a way to managed the client traffic to router via the firewall? is there some management ports I need to add to the rule to allow for Google Network Management traffic to flow direct through the firewall for it's management of updates etc?

Hi Philbo,
Thank you for reaching out to the community. I understand your desire for granular control over internet traffic and your focus on child safety. You're absolutely right that robust security is essential in today's digital world.
Google Nest Wifi, while a fantastic home Wi-Fi system, is primarily designed for home use and may have limitations in terms of advanced network configuration options.
However, Google has built-in safety features within the Nest Wifi system itself. I'd like to direct you to the 'About Family Wi-Fi' article. This article explains the built-in safety features that Google has integrated into their system, such as:
These features, combined with the general security measures of the Nest Wifi system, provide a good level of protection for your children while browsing the internet.
While you might not be able to achieve the exact level of control you're looking for with the Nest Wifi system, I believe the built-in safety features offer a solid foundation for keeping your children safe online.
I hope this explanation is helpful. If you have any further questions about the Family Wi-Fi features or require assistance with configuring them, please check: About Family Wi-Fi.
Let me know how it goes and keep me posted.
Regards,
Kevin
