Hi carolynpfautz,
Thank you for posting here in the community. I am sorry that your Google Home Mini is not connecting to Wifi. But no need to worry, help's here!
Before we get started with further troubleshooting, let me ask you some questions:
- When did the issue start?
- How often does it happen?
- What troubleshooting steps have been done?
- Are there error messages?
- Is the speaker already set up and did it work before?
- Is the Google Home app and device firmware version updated?
It's possible that your Google Home Mini (1st gen) might be having trouble connecting to your Nest Wifi Pro router due to compatibility issues or network configuration. However, to answer your question, the Google Nest speakers are compatible with the Nest Wifi Pro.
In the meantime, here are some things you can try:
- Check Wi-Fi Channel: Ensure your Wi-Fi router is using a channel that your Google Home Mini supports. Older devices might have difficulty connecting to channels using the 5 GHz frequency.
- Restart Devices: Restart both your Google Home Mini and your Wi-Fi router. This can sometimes resolve temporary connection issues.
Network and Placement:
- Wi-Fi Signal Strength and Wi-Fi Network Interference: As you have already mentioned, your speaker is within range of your Wi-Fi router and has a strong signal. Keep in mind that electronic devices, and other Wi-Fi networks can sometimes interfere with signal strength.
- 2.4 GHz Network: It is generally recommended to connect your Google Nest devices to a 2.4 GHz network for better stability. Check your router settings and make sure the Google Home Mini is connected to the 2.4 GHz band (if available) or try with a different network if possible. Note regarding security: Some legacy WPA2 devices might be incompatible with WPA3 and experience connection issues when WPA3 transition mode is on. Learn more about security features. If you have legacy devices that are experiencing connection issues with WPA3, turn off WPA3. Your 6 GHz devices might not connect as often to the 6 GHz band, yet the entire network will deliver 6 GHz benefits since Nest Wifi Pro's mesh connections make use of the benefits of 6 GHz.
Please check the following articles to Connect your Google Nest speaker or display to Wi-Fi,if Your speaker or display is not connecting to Wi-Fi or to know How Nest Wifi and Google Wifi 2.4, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz bands work.
Let me know how it goes.
Best,
Mario
