Starlink with Google Mesh System

Hello!! II just moved to a house with Starlink and a Google Mesh network set up and left in the home for me to connect to .. Starlink router connected to google nest router and 3 WIFI points around the house - running google nest cameras and LIFX smart lights outside

If i connect directly to Starlink in the room where the router is, my download speed is 150mbps.. i connect to the Google Mesh router which is 30cm from the Starlink router and speed is 50-60mbps with dropouts every now and then in some rooms. What can i check to improve the mesh network?

I checked the connected switch by connecting a laptop directly into it to see if the switch was old but that gave me 150mbps too.. put starlink into bypass mode and google mesh speeds didnt change when i did speed test but streaming was severly impacted with buffering . Should i maybe try factory resetting everything and then putting starlink into Bypass mode when doing the initial connection

Looking for instructions on what i can do to get this sorted

Hi @ShaunW01.,

It sounds like you're running into some speed and stability issues with your Google Mesh network despite having a strong internet connection from Starlink. Here are some steps you can try to improve the performance:

  1. Check for Interference: Wi-Fi signals can be weakened by interference from other electronic devices, thick walls, and even mirrors. Try moving your Google Wifi points away from potential sources of interference and ensuring a clear line of sight between them.

  2. Optimize Placement: Ideally, Google Wifi points should be placed strategically throughout your house, no more than 30-40 feet apart for optimal coverage. You can use the Google Home app to check the signal strength between points and make adjustments.

  3. Restart Devices: A simple power cycle can sometimes resolve network glitches. Power down the Starlink router, Google Nest router, and all Wifi points for a minute, then restart them in sequence (Starlink first, then Google Nest, and finally the Wifi points).

  4. Update Firmware: Ensure both the Starlink router and Google Mesh network are running the latest firmware versions. Updates often contain bug fixes and performance improvements. Check the respective apps or manufacturer websites for updates.

  5. Channel Optimization: Consider changing the Wi-Fi channel on your Google Wifi. Crowded Wi-Fi channels can lead to congestion and slowdowns. You can use a Wi-Fi analyzer app to identify less congested channels in your area.

If you have any other questions don't hesitate to let us know.

Hi Mario - i have just factory reset all my nest devices and the Starlink. Rebooted starlink and put it straight into Bypass mode as i have a self managed switch set up. Plugged in eyhernet cable into switch and then into google mesh router and started setup in home app. It finds the device and i scan QR code and then it says Connecting to device until it times out. Have been trying to do this for hours with multiple resets and its not working
