Static IP on Guest Network

robb8888

I don't like putting my IoT devices on my main network; I prefer to connect them to my guest network.  Many IoT devices work better when they have static IP addresses.  However, as far as I can tell, Google Nest Mesh does not allow the setting of static IP addresses on a guest network.  Does anybody have any thoughts/workarounds for this situation?

Feedback is per now best provided through the Google Home app.

If you can set a specific IP on the device itself, that might work? Could cause IP conflicts as you can't specify DHCP scope/ address pool on the guest network I guess.

I don't work for Google.

I saw olavrb's reply, but I don't think that sorted it out:

(1) Some devices (ex: smart plugs) don't allow you to set static IP addresses on the device itself.

(2) As he said,  setting an IP address on the device only and not making any allowances on the guest network could cause conflicts.

Hey robb8888,

Sorry for the long delay in a reply here. I wanted to check back in here and see if you had continued to do any experimenting and troubleshooting on this and to see if anything had changed or worked out for you. The guest network limitations can make it difficult to use for more than just allowing guests to connect, but I can see how a bit of added functionality or control would help in these sorts of situations. If you're still looking at this issue, let me know and we can look at more options.

Thanks,

Jeff
