Still having major ping/latency spikes on wifi pro

Google...are you ever going to address this issue? There has been many posts about this, going back to it's release a year ago. Months ago, user ttul provide good data about this issue in a post here. I, like many others am constantly getting massive lag spikes across all devices on the network. Gaming with this system is horrible. This issue is repeatable and is always temporarily fixed with a complete system reboot/power cycle. Just like every other person complaining about it has said. I believe most customers that deal with this are just returning the systems, per most comments I've read here and on Reddit. I fear that will be my path as well, however I have an entire Google based and integrated smart home (in hindsight maybe not my best decision, but too late now) and I would love to continue to have my wifi easily controllable through the home app. However this performance is completely unacceptable.

One additional fact. I had an original nest wifi system I replaced with this wifi pro system. All other aspects of the network remained the same. I had none of these ping/lag issues with that system for the 2-3 yrs I used it. In fact, even when freshly rebooted, the wifi pro has higher (5-10ms) ping than the nest wifi did.

Hi JayOliphant,

That certainly isn’t the experience we want you to have, and we apologize for the delay. A few questions: are you using a modem/router combo from your Internet Service Provider (ISP)? Which Google/Nest router are we working with? What device are you using to set up your network (iOS or Android)? Do you have the Internet from your modem?

You can do a sequential reboot of your entire network and see if that helps, or please perform a 2-minute power cycle on your entire network to re-establish the connection on your connected devices. Here's how:

  1. Disconnect the power from the modem.
  2. Disconnect the Ethernet cable and power cord from the parent point.
  3. Disconnect the power cord from the child points.
  4. Leave everything unplugged for 2 minutes.
  5. Connect the power cord to the modem then to your router and points.

Also, you can give these steps a try:

  1. If you're using a modem/router combo, set that to bridge mode to avoid double NAT issues.
  2. Make sure that there is minimal to no interference (concrete, bulletproof glass, metal, mirror, etc.) and the points are no more than two rooms apart.
  3. Remove any special characters in your network name and password.
  4. Turn off IPv6:
    1. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
    2. Tap the Wi-Fi coin  and then Settings.
    3. Scroll down and tap Advanced networking.
    4. Scroll down to IPv6.
    5. Toggle the switch off Toggle button off.
  5. Change your DNS server into 8.8.8.8 on the primary and 8.8.4.4 on the secondary server. Hit the save/ floppy disk icon on the upper right.
  6. Unplug the power from your Google Wifi devices for 2 minutes.
  7. If the issue persists, try factory resetting your network. Take note that this will delete all network data.

You may skip any step that you’ve done already.

Let us know how it goes.

Best,

Dan

All of those troubleshooting steps have been done, and done again. From the minute I played my first game with this system, after having the first nest system for years, the horrible general latency was obvious. Then you add the crazy lag spikes and enough was enough. Like many others that have posted here and on Reddit, I boxed this pos system back up and returned it on Sunday. I replaced it with a TP Link XE75pro 3 node system and the performance difference is so much better it is a little shocking. If you have low performance (lower than even there own previous generation nest system) maybe you could be happy with this system. If not, then DO NOT BUY A NEST WIFI PRO SYSTEM. Hopefully this post will save someone else my grief. -Ex Google Fanboy.
