Synology NAS VPN server behind google router

I have a new synology NAS DS220+ server on google wifi.  The google wifi router is directly connected to a xfinity -compatible cable modem (Arris S33). I have enabled synology's openvpn server on the NAS.  Using an openvpn client on android phone with wifi turned off.  I cannot connect to the server (err: server poll timeout).

On google router, I have forwarded every port recommended by Openvpn to the NAS server, including 1194.

I also have a DDNS set up on the NAS, which reflects a different WAN address, than the google router's WAN address. I don't know why they're different, but I have tried an openvpn connection to both the DDNS and the google router's WAN IP address with same result.

I know that google wifi doesn't natively support VPN, but all it is doing is port forwarding these requests to the NAS VPN server.

What is wrong here?

thanks,

rford

Hey rford,

Thanks for posting and our apologies for the late reply. Take note that our Google Wifi devices does not support VPN. Because of this, it won’t be able to connect to your NAS VPN server. Let us know if you have any additional questions and we’ll be happy to help out.

Best,
