Turn on periodic speed tests

SpitfireTN
Community Member

I am no longer seeing a list of speed tests.  I am not getting the speeds I am paying for and I need a list of tests to prove my issue to my ISP.  It used to test at least every other day.  Now I just see 1 "previous speed test" listed.  How do I turn on the "log" so it will show me at LEAST a every other day speed test for the month?

Hello @SpitfireTN

Interesting – I just checked on a couple of my systems, and the internet speed test history isn't showing in either of them, either. I suspect this has been changed intentionally [EDIT: not likely, see update below], but I have no insight into what the reasoning may have been. I've escalated this in hopes of getting an official response. In the mean time, I would suggest using the "Feedback" feature in the Google Home app to let Google know you want to see that feature return.

Edit to add: I just checked both systems from a different device, and the history shows up, but is missing information (download is accurate, upload shows zero on one system, but the reverse on another). So, something seems broken here – maybe not an intentional decision after all.

Hi folks,

Thanks for reaching out and letting us know about your concern. We'll work together to identify the cause of the problem and find a solution. Could you all send us a screenshot showing it? Are you using Android or iOS? Also, please provide the Google Home app version installed to your phone.

I look forward to your responses,

Regards,

Juni

Hello @Juni

It looks like whatever was broken has been fixed now – I just checked from a couple of iPhones and the speed test history is now showing again, and includes both uplink and downlink numbers. Hopefully the original poster can confirm this issue is resolved for them as well.

I use a Samsung Galaxy 23.  I can only see 1 speed test at a time.  The last one was on the 10th.  I would attach a screen shot, but I don't have that option here.

The app version is 3.12.1.6

Hey there,

MichaelP, we are glad that it’s working on your end now.

SpitfireTN, thanks for the details you’ve shared. Could you try to force close and reopen your Google Home app to refresh then observe if it makes a difference? Rebooting your phone might also help. You sure can send us a screenshot showing your concern by following the steps below:

  1. Tap “Reply”.
  2. Click Insert Photos.
  3. Choose an image source location.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions

Also, you can tap the "Drag and Drop" option. Maximum attachment is 5 MB.

Regards,

Juni

As you can see it just shows 1 test.  I need to track a month's worth of tests for my ISP.

Hi,

Just to bump this, this appears to be across both Android and iOS - the Speed Test History appears to have gone in both apps, and only the most recent test is displayed at the bottom of the page. Has it been moved somewhere else in the app.

It's quite useful when you're having internet issues to demonstrate to your ISP.

Cheers,

Phil

I am still waiting for an answer.  Please, we all need this fixed!!

Hey Everyone,

I appreciate the information you have provided, GreenRizlas.

SpitfireTN, I appreciate your feedback and it’s a feature that we all hope to be available again as soon as possible. In the meantime, I’d like to encourage you to send a feedback by doing these steps:

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. At the top-right, tap the account icon.
  3. Tap Feedback  tap the device to submit feedback for.
  4. To display available emails, in the From section, tap the arrow on the right. Select the email address.
  5. In the feedback summary, write a brief description of the issue.
  6. Be sure to check the box for Screenshot and System logs.
  7. To submit feedback, at the top-right, tap Send .

We're always looking for ways to improve and bring more features. Keep an eye out for news and updates.

Best.

Jonathan.

Hi Sicsacol,

I'm going to quote you here, as I find this beyond ironic:

"We're always looking for ways to improve and bring more features. Keep an eye out for news and updates."

Can I remind you that the reason a few of us are here is because the devs removed a feature? What process do these people use whilst developing the app in question?

ie. Yes, here's a feature some people might find useful, let's remove it and see if they REALLY need it.

Great development strategy.

You already know I won't bother following your suggestion, as it's probably pretty pointless, I'll just live with(out) it in and bathe in my continued disappointment in 'big tech' who knows (more than we do) what we want. It was one of the very few 'features' I used of the app ~ as it's the only app that does, and can do these tests at the gateway, you need to congratulate the devs on innovative use of the word 'improve'.

Yours disappointedly,

Phil
