Unable to connect Google Nest wifi to Home Network powered by Verzion Fios (G3100 Router)

I have a very old (2008) Airport Extreme and wanted to upgrade so purchased 2 Google Nest wifi routers.  However, I have been unable to connect the Nest wifi to the network.  The google home app finds the Nest routers without any problem but when I try to connect it says that it is unable to connect.   I even tried connecting the Nest router directly to the back of the LAN port on the Verizon G3100 router but it does not connect.  Can  anyone help??
