Unable to select PPPOE option in WAN settings

When setting up WAN settings, I'm unable to select the PPPOE option. It defaults to DHCP.

It says the modem must be offline and pulsing AMBER to do so.

I unplugged the Ethernet cable, stopped and restarted the modem but it never goes to an AMBER pulse - just pulses white.

How do I set the PPPOE option in this case? I've already done a reset..

Hi dineshrhyv.

Here are a few steps to resolve the issue:

  1. Power Off the Modem: Unplug the modem, wait 30 seconds, and plug it back in.
  2. Ensure Ethernet is Disconnected: Make sure the Ethernet cable is unplugged when trying to select PPPOE.
  3. Wait for Amber Pulse: Restart the modem while the Ethernet cable is unplugged and wait for the amber pulse to appear.
  4. Check for Firmware Updates: Ensure your modem's firmware is up to date.
  5. Try a Factory Reset: Hold the reset button for 10-30 seconds for a full reset.
  6. Check with Your ISP: Verify if PPPOE is supported by your ISP.

If the issue persists, contact your ISP or customer support.

I've had this issue as well, and it seems to happen after the nest has been configured a certain way for a while.

In my testing, the setting can be changed after a factory reset. And once you set it, you can even change it by following the steps given in the Home app.

Problem is, once you've had it set and left it for a while (I'm unsure how long exactly), that ability to change the PPPOE setting won't ever work again, even after a restart. I've tried and tested it several times, following the exact same steps before a factory reset, then again after a factory reset.

The experience with Nest routers is sadly among the worst I've ever had with routers, and I've used quite a lot of them. It's surprising really because goodle are clearly going for that easy "just works" way of doing things, yet the experience here with this product is so fundamentally flawed that even experienced users can't get it to do what it's supposed to do.
