Unable to set Nest Wifi AP setupcode in Google Home

Pifgold
Community Member

I have a Nest Wifi Access Point for which I do not have the QR code anymore. I do see the "setup code" written on the back of the Nest Wifi AP, but using Google home, it is ont possible to write some characters in the code (like numbers or 'a' 'e' or other letters...)

How can I setup the Nest Wifi without Qrcode and without possibility to write the setupcode in Google Home ? Can I regenerate a QRCode for the device, knowing the setupcode for example ?

Thanks

Sounds like a Google Home + keyboard setting issue.

Try to write the setup code in a note taking app, copy it, paste?

Here is the general doc:

Thanks you for the suggestion Olavrb, but if did not solved my issue (i tried to copy/paste, but the paste was just ignored on Google home...). However I found a way to manage this  (i used another device ans installed Google Home on it) there was no more issue...

Solved for me, but sounds like a bug somewhere anyway 😅

Hmm, strange. Good you got it solved. 🙂

Let's hope Google has been informed of this bug. I'll escalate this thread just in case.

What Google Home app version did you use originally?

Hello Olavrb,
I was using the Google Home app version 2.58.1.7 (sounds like it was up to date.. weird that it worked quite differently on the phone vs tablet).

Hi Pifgold,

I'm happy to hear you got this sorted out. It's always great to get things back to full working order. Before I mark this as resolved for you, I wanted to check and see if there might be anything else that you needed. If there's more we can do, just let me know.

Thanks,

Jeff

Is the app bug confirmed/ reproduced and fixed?

Just to complete with an additionnal detail : it sounds possible that the Nest Wifi Routeur I got was designed for another continent (second hand with Amazon, I had no information on this). Maybe this can be related to the trouble I had with the Google Home app.

Mixing countries/ regions won't work, so that might be an issue.

What does the box it came in say? Eventually you could power it on, only connect your PC to it's LAN port. Wait for it to give the PC an IP, then go to:

It will list country code.

Hey everyone,
Thanks for the following and support.
@olavrb : I checked the url, but this confuses me a lot more now, because because the country code is actually "fr" (I am french, so it sounds good...). But I do not understand why there is the Google Home App bug, and more important, why it fails to add any other nest wifi access point... 🤔

Maybe there is a way to check the compatibility between the Nest Router and the Nest Access Point ? I can send you results of status urls for example ?
Best regards,
Fred

I don't understand what you ask for.

I thought this was solved, ref. your reply here:

"But I do not understand why there is the Google Home App bug"

About compaitiblity: All Google Wifi and Nest Wifi pucks can be mixed, see:

But pucks made for different regions cannot be mixed, or your milage may vary, see:

  • "Note: It's strongly recommended to purchase Nest Wifi from the country where you'll be using it. Since wireless regulations vary by country, you may experience compatibility issues if you move your Wifi device(s) to a different country and Google will be unable to offer support. If you're setting up a mesh network, it's recommended to purchase all of your Wifi points in the same country."

What's left solving in this case?
