Hello - I’m the last few weeks, our wireless connection has become increasingly unstable. When I run a mesh test, it says all is good. Last night I was on a zoom call and it was pretty bad so everyone the connection got unstable, I ran a speed test via my browser - speed test independent of the Google home app because whenever I run one in the app it reports it’s “blazing fast” despite it not even working when I run it! I had extreme variation in my upload and download speeds. The most noticeable upload 6.68 - 74 as a range. The other thing I noticed is my latency. It ranged from 11 - 18. I think latency is the issue. I have unplugged all devices for more than 5 minutes. My software version is 1.54.294928 and 14150.43.81. Help?

Hi JKurrle,
Thanks for reaching out. I'm sorry to hear that you're having an issue with the speed of your Google Wifi devices. I'd love to know more about this. To isolate the issue, could you try doing a speed test while a device is connected directly to your ISP modem with an ethernet cable? Also, what is the speed of your plan with your ISP?
If you haven't yet, you could also click on this link for some troubleshooting steps you could try.
Looking forward to your response.
Thanks,
Edward

Edward - thank you so much for responding!!!
According to Fios, I have up to 940 Mbps download and up to 880 Mbps upload sped.
I plugged in my device and ran the speed test three times in a row. No one else is home so aside from the various devices (ring camera etc) that are on the network, nothing else is except for that is connected. And really since I unplugged the ethernet cable from the nest router and plugged that into my computer to run the test, that should have knocked out anything that isn't hard wired which is not much.
Here are my results:
1) 613.7 Download
157.7 Upload
8ms latency
2) 680
140.3
8 ms
3) 579.9
89.6
14 ms
I ran them consecutively.
Does this mean anything to you?
Thanks again!
Jess

Hi JKurrle,
Thanks for doing the step. If your device is connected directly to your ISP's modem, we should at least get 80% of your speed subscription. To isolate the issue, I would suggest contacting your ISP regarding the speed that you're getting.
Let us know how it goes.
Thanks,
Edward

I took the cable from the Nest wifi modem, not from the ISP Fios modem. Should I have done that? I did it this way b/c when I called Fios initially, they said that since I am using the Nest Wifi, the Fios router is effectively sort of just a passthrough and any issues I am having with connectivity would be due to the Nest.

Hi JKurrle,
Thanks for the response. If possible try do it directly from your Fios modem so we could isolate the issue.
Thanks,
Edward

I re-ran the speed tests directly from the fios modem 2 times in a row and here is what I got:
1) 575 Download
292.5 Upload
13 ms latency
2) 652.6
281.9
9 ms
I also noticed that I have something called a TP link 5 port gigabite desktop switch that goes in between my Fios router and my Nest router. Model: TL-SG1005D

Ok, I re-ran the speed test using the direct Fios internet WAN. I did it twice in a row and got this:
1) 575
292.5
12 ms
2) 652.6
281.9
9 ms
I also noticed that I have a TP Link 5-port Gigabit Desktop Switch model TL-SG1005D in between the Fios modem and the Nest router.

I also found that I have a TP Link Gigabite desktop switch model# TL-SG1005D in between the Fios router and the Nest router.

Thanks for providing those test results, JKurrle.
You mention that you have a TP-Link device as well. Is that your modem or another type of router in the system?
Thanks,
Jeff

It is only a switch. It allows me to plug 5 devices into the one router. I have replaced this switch to see if that solved the problem, it did not. Next up I am going to replace the Nest wifi main router and see if that helps and it is an equipment problem. Any other suggestions for testing are appreciated. If none of this work, I might just scrap the whole system and go with something else. Thanks.
