Unstable network

I have been having connectivity issues with my mobile devices (iPhone and iPad) for a while, but now I am also having issues with my wired devices, they either drop off the network or the connection speed drops dramatically, not only with the internet but also copying or accessing other wired devices (Transferring files, etc.)

I have had my ISP look at the issue, they have checked my connections and modem, all are working properly.

When I have these issues I have run the Google Home Internet speed tests, it always shows it's working at the maximum values.

I have rebooted my router a number of times, it seems to work well for a while but then becomes problematic. I have also disconnected my 2 points to make sure they were not the problem.

Need more information....by connectivity are we talking internet or local network? Be specific. Who is your ISP and your modem is important.

  • What model of google wifi do you have? Please explain in detail your network topology.
    • example :
    • ISP Modem/gateway >>
      • Google router >> connects to a switch containing an NAS and a desktop PC
        • mesh point A >> ethernet ports are not used
        • mesh point B >> 1x ethernet port used for smart TV
  • Give an example a transfer...be specific of how you are transfering.
    • are you connected to a local drive and using smb to transfer?
  • Explain in detail degraded performance with Apple devices, do you lose connection to the network or the internet...be specific.
    • When they're dropping connection are they entirely disconnecting from the local network or are they losing connection to the internet? Be specific.
    • Is IPV6 enabled? Try disabling it and see if this improves.
    • Change the password of your network to rule out rogue devices. ideally reduce the number of devices to the bare min to troubleshoot.
    • Change DNS to be set as ISP or set custom to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

Try some of these approaches and most importantly...show what you can do to replicate the erradic behavior.

Best regards,
Apsilon
