Wifi pointer recurring disconnection

Jacksoning
Community Member

I have had my Nest wifi and Nest wifi point extender for over two years. I have his recurring issue where the Next Wifi Point will not providing a wifi connection to the devices close to it.

I can tell that my wifi is work for the devices connect to the main nest wifi router but not the point. I usually get a message from the google home app saying that the device is not plugged in but it is and it's even connected to devices while not providing a internet connection.

I have ran mesh connection tests that show that there is not any issues and I have factory reset this device a few times and reinstall it to my home account hoping it would start working properly.

I usually have to unplug and replug it in daily for it to start working again. And I have even moved it to the next room over from the main nest router. My apartment is only 1,400 Sq ft; I know I don't have to have it but I bought it before I moved to this apartment and I would like to use it since I have it.

What can I do? I feel like it's the device, maybe I got a lemon. Idk

Hey Jacksoning,

Thanks for posting — let's see what's going on.

Are you using a modem/router combo from your Internet Service Provider (ISP)? How many devices are dropping from the network? Also, do you have any paused devices?

Give these steps a try:

  1. Make sure that there is minimal to no interference (concrete, bulletproof glass, metal, mirror, etc.) and the points are no more than two rooms apart.
  2. Remove any special characters in your network name and password.
  3. Turn off IPv6.
  4. Set a custom DNS at 8.8.8.8 on the primary and 8.8.4.4 on the secondary server. Hit the save/ floppy disk icon on the upper right.
  5. Unplug the power from your Google Wifi devices for 2 minutes.
  6. If the issue persists, try factory resetting your network.

Let us know how it goes.

Best,

Mel

Hey Jacksoning,

I wanted to follow up and see if you are still in need of any help. Have you had the chance to try the suggestion above? If yes, how is it?

Thanks,
Mel
