Wifi signal drops (almost the same time everyday)

Hi everyone, this is really strange… my wifi drops almost the same time every single day. Right between 11:30-12:30. Everything is running great, my mesh is great, my Internet speed and connectivity is great until about this same time frame.

My signal drops, I’ll look at my modem and it’s solid signal, I’ll look at my connected wifi router and the white light is glowing/pulsing. It takes about a minute or so and then my wifi signal comes back.

can anyone help me? Thanks I’m advance!

Hi Rick949,

That certainly isn’t the experience we want you to have and apologies for the delay. A few questions: are you using a modem/router combo from your Internet Service Provider (ISP)? Also, do you have any paused devices?

We know that you’ve already tried other options. It would be a pleasure to help you get through this. Kindly try these steps:

  1. If you're using a modem/router combo, set that to bridge mode to avoid double NAT issues.
  2. Make sure that there is minimal to no interference (concrete, bulletproof glass, metal, mirror, etc.) and the points are no more than two rooms apart.
  3. Remove any special characters in your network name and password.
  4. Turn off IPv6:
    1. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
    2. Tap the Wi-Fi coin  and then Settings Settings.
    3. Scroll down and tap Advanced networking.
    4. Scroll down to IPv6.
    5. Toggle the switch off Toggle button off.
  5. Change your DNS server into 8.8.8.8 on the primary and 8.8.4.4 on the secondary server. Hit the save/ floppy disk icon on the upper right.
  6. Unplug the power from your Google Wifi devices for 2 minutes.
  7. If the issue persists, try factory resetting your network. Take note that this will delete all network data.

You may skip any step that you’ve done already.

Let us know how it goes.

Best regards,

Dan

Hi Dan,

im really at a loss here.. I can’t figure this out. It happened 2 times today during a work meeting and I thought it was maybe had to do with Microsoft teams. But my work computer is shut down and my wifi dropped again.

Also, I noticed that on my app I have my notifications set to show let me know when my signal drops.. apparently that doesn’t work either. Is there anyone I can talk to online/phone that can help me out?

thanks!

Hey there Rick949,

We totally understand that troubleshooting can be engaging at times, but these are the most helpful steps to figure out what's going on with your device. Let's give them a try!

Inform us of what troubleshooting steps were taken so that we can try the next ones, one step at a time.

Kind regards,

Dan

Hi Dan,

I’ve gone through all of the steps…

1. I don’t have a combo router/wifi

2. I don’t have any barriers walls (I like in a 1200 sq foot condo

3. I turned off IPV6 (toggled)

4. I changed the DNS server 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 - per the instructions.

5. I’ve unplugged both devices for 2

mins

none if these fixed the issue - the only thing I didn’t do was change the name of my wifi. I wanted to hold out on this because I didn’t  want to have reinstall all of my other network devices (8 lifx bulbs 3 nest protects mounted in very high ceilings, nest thermostat, and google  battery doorbell other devices). My original Wifi name is RAE-1 so that was the last item to fix.

So as a final effort I went for the factory reset to change my network name simple name (without any characters) - I successfully did that - the mesh connection is solid. I then Spent hours reestablishing wifi connect to all my devices except my nest protects because I have to get on a ladder and manually reconnect them. Not happy about that.

I thought everything would be fine and sure enough while I’m in a conference call on teams with my MacBook pro

my connection dropped again! I can look over at my main wifi router connected to the modem and I see it glowing. It takes a few minutes until I can see my wifi network and get back online. I’m extremely annoyed here…

so what’s my next steps here? Do I need to try the DNS server 8.8.8.8 thing again?
