Had this Wifi Pro for a few weeks now. Every now and then I get glimpses of greatness. Today was a great example.
I run speed tests a lot on my PCs. I use them for work and deal in video, so transferring speeds to and from the cloud are important. Once, a couple weeks back my newest PC, with the latest intel wifi6 card and drivers, I was able to hit 300+Mbps. Otherwise I hover around at or just under 200Mbps. This is on a 400Mbps plan.
Today, for the heck of it, I ran a speed test on my phone, while connected to the same point my PC is. It hit 340+. So, went to my PC and it gets, like 80Mbps. Wifi radio icon shows minus 1 bar. Looked at network info, I am connected via wifi6. I move on to other stuff, come back to speed test, I hit 330! Radio icon show full bars and that I am connected to wifi5.
Why is the 5Ghz connected from point to PC faster? I thought I needed to have a 6Ghz wifi receiver to get the benefits of 6Ghz speeds. Also, how do I keep this PC from connecting via wifi6 if it's always going to be slower?

Hi MrMillyMike,
I just wanted to jump in and let you know that a new firmware release is out now to Nest Wifi Pro devices (1.63.324946). You won't need to do anything to receive the update and it will install automatically once it's available for your hardware. There are a variety of performance updates and bug fixes in the release, so I'm hoping this clears up the issues you're seeing here. Let me know if you have any questions about the update.
Also, we'll keep this thread open so everyone can chime in.
Thanks,
Abi

Things are still very odd. Speed tests of the main point in google home give lower results than a speed test run from my phone of my phone connected to the same, main, point.

Hello MrMillyMike,
Can you try doing the speed test using a different phone or device? Also, try to uninstall and reinstall your Google Home app and check if there will be any changes. We'll wait for your update.

Abi

Will uninstalling/reinstalling Home reset any of my settings, routines, rooms, etc?
12-13-2022 02:28 PM
Hi MrMillyMike,
No, it will not affect your current settings. You will be able to access your network after that step. Let us know how it goes.
Best,
Abi

I have reinstalled Home, rebooted modem and point, tried different devices. My main point is not reading speed correctly or reducing my speed in tests.
Maybe things are functioning properly but the then gives are bad picture, confusing the end user. Like, I'm complaining to my provider that I'm still getting 400 speed when I'm paying for gigabit. Yet, it's your equipment/app tests that give me bad info or the unit is nerfing my speed.

Still having my original issue on my PC. Some days it stays on 5ghz, giving me 370-380mbps DL. Other times it bounces back and forth between 6ghz and 5ghz and the 6ghz never gets above 270mbps or so. Then Ive had the pleasure if it connecting at 2.4ghz where I get horrible speeds.
This is from a point that is 20ft or so from main point and most commonly registers as a "great" connection and "good" when not. And My Desktop is 5 foot from this office point.
I simply want it to find the fastest connection and stay there. Why is this so hard?

Hi MrMillyMike,
Thanks for getting back to us.
Are there other devices having this issue?

I only have a couple 6ghz devices, like many people. My phones work great. As stated, from the main point, my phone gets better speeds in tests than the main point does itself. While using the same office point my PC does, my phone gets 370mbps-ish as it is connected via 5ghz, it is not using 6ghz.
Again, the issue is with the point and the poor performance related to 6ghz.

Hi MrMillyMike,
How many Nest Wifi Pro in total do you have? Are your points hardwired to your main point?

Hello MrMillyMike,
A few questions: Are you using a modem/router combo from your Internet Service Provider (ISP)? How many devices are dropping from the network? Also, do you have any paused devices?
Give these steps a try:
If you're using a modem/router combo, set that to bridge mode to avoid double NAT issues.
Make sure that there is minimal to no interference (concrete, bulletproof glass, metal, mirror, etc.) and the points are no more than two rooms apart.
Remove any special characters in your network name and password.
Turn off IPv6.
Change your DNS server into 8.8.8.8 on the primary and 8.8.4.4 on the secondary server. Hit the save/ floppy disk icon on the upper right.
Unplug the power from your Google Wifi devices for 2 minutes.
If the issue persists, try factory resetting your network.
Let us know how it goes.
Cheers,
Abi
