Youtube is not working using Google Wifi

barak1413

I have Google Nest Wifi connected to my router.

Everything was working great, until couple of weeks ago, YouTube stopped working when i use the Google WiFi - it's getting stuck on buffering.

In contrast, using my router WiFi (not Google's) works seamlessly.

Any idea why?

Thanks.

"Using my router WiFi (not Google's)" indicates double NAT, which is not ideal. Nest Wifi itself is a router with NAT, firewall, DHCP. Any routers in front of it should be bridged.

But to your specific problem, try to disable IPv6 and see if that makes a difference:

I don't work for Google.

Thank you for your response.

IPv6 is already disabled in my Google WiFi. Should I enable it?

The thing is all other video streaming websites are working great.

Just the Google's services make me the desribed problem.

@olavrb, thanks for the help!

@barak1413, thanks for reaching out. How's it going? were you able to try bridging the router like olavrb mentioned? Keep us posted.

Thanks,

Edward

Hi folks,

Thanks for letting us know. To isolate the issue, please try changing the DNS. Here's how:

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Tap the Wi-Fi > Settings > Advanced networking.
  3. Tap DNS.
  4. Select Custom and enter 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4.
  5. Tap Save.

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks,

Edward

Tried it, did not help.

In my case I thnk it is related to IPv6. Once I disabled IPv6 everything started working perfectly.

I need to enable it again and see if the problem returns. (Will check later today)

Hi Oded,

Thanks for the update. Were you able to try turning on the IPV6 again? How did it go?

I'm having the same problem.  Though in my cases some devices are working fine with the Google wifi and some aren't.  But all work fine with the non google router and network.  Would certain appreciate any help.  I have tried everything I can think of.  Flush DNS clear cache.

I have the same problem but the issue is with specific streaming. For example it take lots of time for youtube to play a video. It takes discord lots of time to connect to a voice channel. When i am connected directly to the router (not using google wifi) it works perfectly. I think it started a week ago.
