both Google Nest Wifi Pro devices are blinking yellow but the wifi works

Hi,

I have owned Google (Nest) Wifi devices going back to when I first purchased the first generation in September of 2017. I have a 3-story house in a relatively dense urban area. I work from home 2 days a week and my wife works from home full time. We were very happy with Google Wifi, upgraded to 2nd gen, again were very happy until late last year when they started to become pretty unstable for reasons I couldn't figure out, so assumed it was a problematic software update. I upgraded to (2x) Google Wifi Pro devices in December, in the hope that would improve things, but if anything it got worse. I've run into a number of problems with connectivity, stability, and the Google Home iPhone app, but I'll just describe my current problem: both of my devices are currently blinking yellow, but the wifi works. If I run a mesh test, it says the connection is good but it only shows one device (so what is the "connection" it's referring to?). I tried physically powering each device on and off multiple times, because in the past when one went to blinking yellow (it's happened a few different times), the wifi would then start having problems, like not allowing my iPhone to connect to it, asking for the password, etc. even though it all worked before. Even after powering the devices on and off, we eventually end up with two devices blinking yellow. I have had many problems before this where the only way to fix was to manually reset both devices, and I can do that again, but it seems silly to have to do that on a nearly bi-weekly basis since that's how frequently we have these problems.

I have called support in the past and have ended up on the phone with them for something on the order of 2-5 hours with not much to show for it. The last time I was told to place the two devices within 12 feet of each other, which in 2024 doesn't seem to be a realistic request for a mesh wifi system, especially given competing products that don't have that limitation. The whole reason for mesh wifi in my case is so that I can extend wifi coverage by placing devices a reasonable distance away from each other, which to me is more than 12 feet. A backhaul connection isn't realistic because I have a very old house and it's not easy to run an ethernet cable under the floors to the location of where devices are.

Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

They are working on a fix apparently!
