bridge mode isp modem causing issues with google nest router

hello. I configured a bdcom modem to bridge mode which works fine when i connect it directly to my laptop. I connected the bridge mode ISP modem to my google nest router without a problem, setup the remaining points without a hitch. So the main nest router is getting a semi public ip (i think the isp is doing a double nat because my nest router IP and the IP im getting from whatsmyip is different) and the points are getting private ips. Anyway, everything works fine, my problem with this setup is that when something goes wrong with the isp  and the nest router loses internet, the nest router can't reconnect to the bridge mode modem when the connection comes back, it just keeps blinking yellow. So I have to  do another Factory reset with the nest router just to get a connection again. It's kinda annoying to do this because it takes a while to setup nest router and the 4 points. I don't wanna set the modem back to router mode because it messes up our internet speed. So if anyone can suggest something I'd really appreciate it.

Usually the best setup is to set the modem from your ISP as modem only , ie turn off routing functionality entirely, and let the nest do the routing.   This avoids double NAT issues, as well as a host of other potential problems.  I use this setup personally , as I found leaving my ISPs routing function on actually causes the modem to need to be rebooted quite frequently, and with all of that disabled the modem stays online quite consistently.

i already switched off the  routing functions on the modem, it's already in bridge mode and dhcp server is off. this works well with a newly setup nest router. but when my fiber modem gets an LOS and when the isp fixes it, the nest router doesnt reconnect to the internet, it just keeps blinking yellow like there's still no internet connection from the modem. if i set the modem to routing mode, the nest router reconnects without any problems

My apologies I misunderstood your OP.  Okay so when your ISP modem loses connection hour nest cannot reconnect.  You said you have to factory reset it, power cycling does not fix the issue ?  If not , then I may be stumped, and would suggest contacting google support directly.

No worries! yeah power cycling it  didn't fix it. I also found a forum and the thread was about 5 years old, it was about the google wifi gen 1 that wont reconnect to a bridge mode modem after a power loss (which is also the case with my nest router) and there was no solution to that thread but to factory reset the google wifi gen 1. Anyway, I just dusted my old netgear router and attached it to the modem, then connected the nest router to it. it's kind of redundant to attach another router to this setup, which is supposed to be the job of the google nest router, but i guess that's my solution to my setup

That's a shame that you have to do that.. fingers crossed this gets addresses in an upcoming firmware update!

Hi, batmite.

Sorry for the issues you have been having with your WiFi setup. It looks like you found a temporary fix for your situation. I just wanted to check in real fast to see if you needed anything else for the time being. If so, let me know.

Thanks.
