orientation of Google WiFi points

Is the orientation significant for the wifi points comprising the mesh? Either horizontally or vertically? Are their antennae directional at all?

Hello @MarkDirac

Each Google WiFi unit or Nest WiFi Point has two omnidirectional antennas in each band (2.4GHz and 5GHz). These antennas are oriented with different polarizations as well. The result should be pretty good coverage in all directions. It's not a perfect sphere, but it's likely you'll have more issues with obstructions (e.g., metal furniture, concrete/brick/plaster walls/floors, etc.) than you will from changing their orientation.

See following guide on placement:

And following related guide:

You can also use apps like Ubiquiti Wifiman to measure wifi signal strength. Try from different places in your home, with the Nest Wifi pucks placed differently, see if you can find what's best.

I don't work for Google.
