sonos and google nest wifi pro

all. i am a big fan of both sonos and google nest pro wifi. the only problem i have is that sonos speakers won't remain grouped on this wifi. (i play speakers in three rooms as part of one group.) sonos says some of the speakers are connecting on 2.4 and some on 5, and that that's a conflict. i have tried hard-wiring a sonos speaker to the wifi router (restarting the whole wifi system and powering off the speakers before the reconnection). and i have tried the connection without a hard-wire. my sonos speakers are on S2. i have both Play 3s and Play 1s, plus a sub. I also have a Roam but I don't use it in a group. one thing sonos technicians advise is changing the wifi channel but that doesn't seem possible with this wifi, though it was possible with a different model of wifi i used. (that wifi also had the grouping problem.) i have changed my dns to google's 8888 and 8844 in an effort to ensure the internet is stable, which it is. all of the sonos system software is updated. nothing seems to keep the speakers connected in groups. in fact they often stay connected in groups for many hours but if i go out of the apartment and return, the presence of my iphone seems to trigger a disconnect. and when they disconnect, it can take 15 minutes or 30 minutes to reconnect. the wifi reports my home network is blazing fast. any advice welcome.

Hi @suburbaphobia,

Thanks for reaching out about the issue with your Sonos speakers not staying grouped on your Google Nest WiFi Pro system. It sounds especially frustrating that the speakers disconnect when you return home.

I appreciate you mentioning the troubleshooting steps you've already tried, like changing the DNS settings and using a wired connection. Since the wired connection works at times, let's see if we can get it reliable. Here are a few additional things you can try:

  • Guest Network: If separate SSIDs aren't an option, try setting up a guest network specifically for your Sonos speakers. Isolating them from other devices might minimize interference.
  • SonosNet: Double-check that SonosNet is enabled in the Sonos app. It creates a dedicated mesh network for your speakers, potentially improving group connectivity.
  • Restart Systems: Although you've mentioned restarting them, sometimes a simple reboot of both your Sonos system and Nest Wifi Pro can clear up temporary channel congestion issues.
  • Search Sonos Forums: Online forums dedicated to Sonos products might have solutions from other users who faced similar issues.
  • Update the Sonos app: Ensure you're using the latest version of the Sonos app for any bug fixes or improvements related to group stability.

Let's try the steps above! Once you've had a chance to implement them, feel free to let me know how it goes. If you have any further questions along the way, don't hesitate to ask.

All the best,

Jorge.

Same problem including no streaming services on my Samsung TV.  So much for simple.   I've been trying to resolve for two days and I'm ready to go back to the old router.   What a waste of time.
