I lost my broadband when the cable was taken out by a tree. And couldn't connect remotely with my Nest. I have since received some very high power bills despite the fact there was no one at the property when the broadband was down... Does a Nest default to factory settings when this happens? Any advice appreciated.

After losing connection the devices will still be powered on. They may need to be rebooted when the wifi connection comes back and possibly set up again. They will stay powered and they don't shut off though.
