Adding local news on morning routine has disappeared

Adding my local news is not available any longer on my list of routines.

How do I get it added back?

Garrett,

Hey Thanks for reaching out!

I did get it figured out.   Not sure how, but we're getting our local news now!

Hi @KWagz let's try a few simple things first, try rebooting your router, modem, nest speaker device, and phone.

Home app > Routines > in existing routine or new, Add Action > Play and Control Media > News

Not seeing this?

You can also try,

Google app > your profile (upper right) > Settings > Google Assistant > Routines > in existing or new routine, Add Action > Play and Control Media > News

Happy holidays

Yes!  This is exactly how I have it set up!

It does not play.

When I vetbally say, 'Hey Google, play me the news', Rueters starts up.

I remember my local news in line with the other actions at the bottom.

Any other suggestions?

Google tends to move and change things about in the Home app, but here's where the settings are for it:

  1. Makes sure your phone and account are on the same wifi and logged into the correct account.
  2. Open the home app and choose your profile picture.
  3. Choose Assistant settings
  4. Scroll down until you find "News - Preferred sources & format"

If your news source is no longer there or doesn't play, it's possible the source has decided to remove it and you'll get dead air. For example, I used to listen to the Nightly Business Report on NPR, and the show went off the air. The banner would still show, but I got nothing -- no warning, no error, not even "this service is no longer available" which would be nice. That said, Google doesn't control the content, the content owner does, and it's up to the affiliate to make local news services available to these devices. If it's gone, it's possible the agreement has expired.

I currently listen to my news sources every weekday right after the alarm on my phone is turned off, so it's there and working. Are any of you using VPN services or software that blocks ports or firewalls or anything similar? That might cause a problem.

Do you have sleep monitoring on? I've found that interferes with playing anything after an alarm is dismissed

I do not use an alarm on this one. ☹️

Hey there,
Sorry for the late response, but I wanted to drop in here to help.

I understand that this can be confusing but I definitely wanted to stop by and see how I could help.

Just wanted to double check to see if you were still needing help on this? If so, what troubleshooting steps have you tried?

I look forward to hearing from you.

Best regards,
Garrett DS
