Hello. How do I stop my device from announcing what I have just asked it to play before the playback starts? I understand that it can help confirm that the device has heard the request correctly but there must be a way to disable the function. My device has even started to announce the music that it plays as an action in a routine by saying 'sure, playing (track name)' before the music starts. I'm sure google devices didn't always do this and it's really annoying. Thanks.

Hello dpd,

Thanks for posting. Please note that there's no option to turn off the Google Assistant response after the command. We're always looking for ways to improve; we'll take this as feedback. You can also send feedback using your device by saying, "Hey Google, send feedback." Visit this link for more steps.

Cheers,

Hi Muddi.

I knew there was no way to turn off the response - the question was just a way of raising the issue. I understand that the response can help confirm that the device has heard the request correctly but there should be a way to disable the function. It really disrupts social use of a nest speaker, when you have friends around and everyone is requesting tracks. It's also very annoying when you're trying to play bedtime music as children go to sleep.

What about the new development of the device announcing the music that it plays as an action in a routine? That is utterly pointless because the whole purpose of a routine is that it is the same every time. If the correct music played the first time, it should play every time and I don't need the device to tell what I requested when I set up the routine. Who thought this was a good addition to routines?

Thanks.

Hey there,

Absolutely! We understand your desire for improvement. Our team is diligently working to enhance the features of our Google Home and Nest devices. Right now, the most effective way to enjoy music on your Google Nest Hub Max without receiving a response is by casting a song from any supported music service using your phone, tablet, or computer. This allows you to seamlessly stream your favorite tunes.

Hi Muddi. You didn't answer the question about the device announcing the music that it plays as an action in a routine? Surely nobody thinks that is a good idea.

Hi dpd,

When it comes to routine actions, it's similar to playing music on your speaker - there's no option to turn it off. However, you can always send feedback to request any improvements or additional features that you'd like to see on your device. As for returns, could you please let us know when and where you purchased your Nest Hub Max?

Cheers,

Muddi

Hi Muddi. Thank you for the response but it doesn't help. What you are suggesting is what I could do years ago by connecting a phone to a bluetooth speaker. What was the point in investing a considerable amount of money in a voice-activated smart speaker if it can't do any more than an old tech bluetooth speaker? How do I return the nest hub max for a refund?

Hello Muddi. Why do you want to know when and where I purchased the Nest Hub Max? It is obviously the firmware that is the issue, not the devices. The problem is with google, not the retailer who sold me the speaker. I've read a lot of conversations on this forum and haven't found a single one where google has provided a solution to the reported problem. I used to love my google devices - which is why I have so many connected to my network - and they all worked more or less flawlessly until a couple of years ago. What went wrong at google?

I've just found the following on lifehacker.com:

'The best way to take care of Google command responses is to change the Assistant’s response settings, which you can do by opening the Google Home app on your phone and accessing the settings.

Under “All settings,” tap “Assistant voice.” Hit “Speech output,” and you’ll see all your Google devices listed. Select the one you want to change the settings for, then tap “Hands-free only.” Google Assistant will show responses on your phone with this option on, but it won’t say them out loud.

You may also see options labeled “Full,” “Brief,” or “None.” If you choose “Brief,” Google Assistant will still respond out loud to your commands, but the responses will be shorter. Selecting “None” will turn them off entirely.'

I found 'speech output' in the app and the three options 'Full', ''Brief' and 'None' are present but none of my devices are listed, so I can't apply the changes and changing the option doesn't appear to have any effect anywhere.

Why did google remove this function?
