Assistant Announcing Entire Videoconferrence URLs

When a Zoom meeting URL is in the location for a meeting Assistant will read the entire URL, character by character, when asked to announce appointments. Funny at first, now annoying. Is there a way to suppress URLs from being spoken aloud when they are a location?

Hi Blather,

Thank you for posting here in the community. I´m sorry that you´re having troubles suppressing the Google Assistant-spoken URLs from Zoom. I understand that this could be annoying. Let's check together for an option.

This behavior is likely due to Google Assistant´s attempt to provide detailed information. For now, there is no direct setting in Google Assistant to specifically suppress the reading of URLs when they are used as locations. However, you can try the following:

Use a Different Location:

  • If the URL isn't essential for identifying the meeting, consider using a different location, such as the meeting organizer's name or a specific room.

Provide Context:

  • When setting the appointment, try adding a note or description that clarifies the meeting without using the full URL. This might help Google Assistant understand the context better.

Google Assistant's capabilities are constantly evolving. Your thoughts are really appreciated. Please share your feedback so it can be addressed better and work on future updates for the Google Assistant.

Let me know if you have more questions.

Regards,

Byron

Thank, Byron. However, most of the meetings that cause this aren't ones that I create; it's default for Zoom and others to put the URL in the location for convenience. I can't edit every one of them; it seems like it shouldn't be too hard for Assistant to recognize a URL when it finds one and skip it, or give an option to not read locations (it's not necessary in most cases, even for physical addresses).
