Auto brightness offset slider keeps resetting

Awff
Community Member

Hello,

I have two nest hubs where I previously was able to adjust the auto brightness offset slider anywhere from 0% to 100%

now ever since a recent update, it seems to be bugged and only allows me to fix it to three settings… 0%, 50% and 100%. Anywhere else will just reset the slider to 50%…

is there something I am doing wrong??

I have the same issue, on both Android and iOS. Now there are only 3 brightness offset settings available instead of 5.

Yes this is still an ongoing issue even after several updates later. The brightness slider still jumps to either ends or the middle. Please see attached link you’ll notice that I change the brightness it will jump back to the closest

Same here. I have 4 nest hubs and all of them have 3 brightness options available instead of the previous 5. This is annoying because I used to use 4/5 as the brightness level, but now I can either make the devices dimmer or brighter than I wish.

Hey folks,

Thanks for coming back to us. Sorry to hear that you still have issues adjusting the brightness of your device from the Google Home app. To confirm, do you have the same issue when adjusting the settings from the Nest Hub screen? What is the Google Home app version on your phone? Also, what is the make and model of your device including the Android or iOS version?

Our team would want to check on this further. Please replicate the issue first, then make sure that device usage and crash reports to Google is enabled. Once done, please send feedback on the Google Home app using the keywords "GHT3 Auto brightness offset slider keeps resetting." To know more about sending feedback, please refer to this link

We'll keep everyone posted on this thread as soon as we have something to share — we appreciate your patience.

Cheers,

Muddi

Just confirming, the issue is not setting the brightness on the hub, but the brightness offset slider.

Hey folks,

Chiming in. Does the behavior persists after updating to Google Home app 2.52 which rolled out a few weeks ago?

Best,

It's not fixed with 2.53. There are still only 3 brightness levels instead of 5.

My apps and ios are always up-to-date and the issue still is present even on the latest version

Thanks for the continual updates Muddi.

I've just received my 2nd gen Nest Hub today, and am also unable to set my auto-brightness offset to a setting between 50 and 100 - only 0, 50 or 100 work.

I have submitted feedback with tag GHT3 Auto brightness offset slider keeps resetting.

Hi Jake & Princess,

Thanks for following up. Just checked again today, and still no go. Only the lowest setting, the middle setting and the highest settings work on the slider. The app must have been updated since last time, because now the slider allows you to select any position, rather than the 5 positions from last time. Sadly it did not fix the issue.

Home app version 2.53.15.3 on Android by the way.

Thanks!

Hey Muddi,

My current Google Home app version is 2.57.1.8. The Nest system firmware version is 309385. I can confirm that the issue where the Ambient EQ brightness offset slider takes only 3 values is still present with these versions.

lilboi630

Google Home app version is 2.56.23.3, home max firmware version 3166243, first gen hub version is 3166240.

No, the issue is back as of June 5. Complete dark, despite brightness setting adjustments in the Google Home app. Please check if you can file a bug to have this reset ASAP. Was working fine yesterday

I have the same issue

i also hae the same issue. some sort f bug?

Interestingly, I tried installing an old version of the Google Home app from Dec 2020. It fixed this problem! The slider on that app let me adjust the ambient offset perfectly. Which makes me think it's an app issue, not a device issue.
I actually had another issue with the latest app earlier - it wouldn't let me change my device name. Again, the old app was fine and worked.

I’m hoping this gets fixed on the next update.

make sure you report the issue by

- going into the page where you change the brightness offset;

- then tap the three dots at the top right corner and select “feedback”

I bought a 2nd Gen Nest Hub last week and am facing this same problem. I have given feedback as per the tag above.

I've been having this issue for some time, I was able to install an older version of the home app and get this functionality back on my gen 1 nest hub. I'll need to mess with it some more to get my hub max working as the older application force closes whenever I go into display settings. It's a matter of finding the correct version of the app that has it working. Very annoying but I really only need to set it once, but I do hope this gets resolved soon, it's a major downgrade.

Unfortunately, I've been unable to find a working version, I downloaded an apk dated when I purchased the hub max, and all the way back to the release of the device, app just crashes on older versions and anything newer than 2.31.1.7 (Nov 2020) contains the updated slider which doesn't work. It's looking like the hub max might also be hardware related. Don't have high hopes that this will get fixed, but one can hope.

I'm also having this problem on all of my nest hubs.

I know you guys are looking into it for a while, but can someone stop looking into it and actually fix it, please?

I'll be completely honest here. I've been thinking a lot recently about going back to the competidor. I must say, this unreasonable time to solve such a simple problem is just the most recent, yet strong push into that direction.

This is not a threat at all, it just my most recent realisation. I'm just one customer after all.

Hello everybody.

It appears that I am suffering from the same issue. First thing this morning I noticed that my Hub Max was almost completely dark. I even wondered if the backlight had broken. I rebooted the device with no change.

I then tried to alter settings from the home app and I noticed that the slider was jumping around in the way described in previous posts.

I'll send my feedback as suggested earlier in the thread.

Looking forward to a fix.

Hello,

Still the same issue. Google is it going to get fixed. It has been an issue for many, many months now.
