Auto reset when device loses wifi connection

Hi all,

I have several Nest Audio speakers in my house and from time to time, they lose connection to WiFi. The only thing that helps is turning the speaker off and on again.

So I thought, if these devices are so smart, can't they auto-reset themselves when the internet connection is disrupted for an x amount of time, let's say 10 minutes..

Would make my life much easier

Hi there,

Thanks for posting in the community. I understand that there are any speakers that lost the connection by itself.

Before i begin with any troubleshooting, i need to ask a few questions about your concern below:

  • How far are the speakers from the router?
  • Does it happen with other devices as TV, computer or phone?
  • Have you got any power outage recently?
  • When do the inconveniences start?
  • What kind of speakers do you have?

Regarding your question, we don't have a specific feature therefore you can fill out this DSCC Feedback Form so Google may implement this in the future.

Keep me posted.

Best regards,

Rusell.

Hi Russell,

Let's see

  • The speakers are all at different locations in respect to the modem (which is on the ground floor). The speaker nearest to the modem is 2 meters away and also has this problem. I have two speakers in my bedroom on each side of the bed in stereo mode. One speaker (closest to the modem) is losing connection almost every day and the other one works fine for most of the time 😅
  • I don't experience WiFi connection problems on other devices such as the TV, phone or laptop.
  • Power outage: can't really remember, but sometimes I manually turn off the power if I need to do some maintenance in the house.
  • Inconvenience has been there since the beginning that I bought these speakers 3 years ago. I got better when I received a new modem from my provider, but problem never really went away..
  • All devices are Nest Audio except one which is the Mini

I know the WiFi signal is powerful enough, because I get great coverage on the second floor with my phone and laptop. There are no Nest speakers on the second floor so I can't compare the connection.

Do you think there is something on my end that I can change to resolve this connection problems?

Hi there,

Thank you for your response. We appreciate that you answered the questions, this means that we can move forward with troubleshooting.

  • Reboot the Wi-Fi router
    • Unplug the Wi-Fi router from the power source for 2 minutes.

    • After 2 minutes, plug the router back into its power source.

  • Unplug the speaker
    • Unplug the power cord from the speaker or display.
    • Leave it unplugged for one minute.
    • Plug the power cord back in.
  • Factory reset

Keep me posted.

Best regards,

Rusell.
