Best hub max TuneIn won’t play abc news radio

StuMurr

Hi, for months now my best google nest hub max won’t play ABC NewsRadio on TuneIn. Other radio stations work fine, like Triple J, but that plays on iheart radio. ABC news radio won’t play on iheart radio.

I see a lot of people have had this problem. The best hub acknowledges my request and attempts to start the stream for abc news radio, but the stream never starts.

device info:

System firmware version: 8.20220713.2.194059

Cast firmware: 1.63.324740

cheers,

Stuart

Hi, I've been encountering the exact same issue. It used to work but stopped a few months ago. Googl3 will blame TuneIn and TuneIn will blame the nest.

Very occasionally I get it to work but asking for ABC New Radio from Radio App, but this fails more often than works.

I'm not sure who to turn to for help.

Hi folks,

@MikeClark, thanks for the help.

@StuMurr, @Sparrow67, that certainly hasn't been easy for you ― let's check it out. Could you try to play the desired radio station on your Google Assistant app. If you have an iOS mobile device, kindly install it from the App Store and sign-in using your Google Account. By the way, for confirmation, all other radio stations are working, right? Would it be okay if you could specify the voice command you're giving and what is the response? It would help a lot if you could do a sequential reboot first. Unplug the power cord of your router followed by your Nest Mini. Plug them back in after 3 minutes or 5 minutes tops. Restarting your phone might also help.

Keep us posted.

Best,

Dan

Hi Dan,
I hope you enjoyed Christmas.
When I ask for ABC News radio via Google assistant, the app requests tuneIn to open, when tuneIn opens, I need to selected the play icon.
I have 2 Google Nests and 2 Google Audios, all exhibiting the same issue.

I have followed your reboot instructions below, to no avail. As well as factory reseting all devices. Again this did not resolve the issue.

The commands I use are:
" Play ABC news radio"
"Stream ABC news radio"
"Play News radio"

The response is always the same!
"Streaming ABC news radio fromTuneIn"
Then there is silence.

I hope this helps.

Hey Sparrow67,

Chiming in, are you able to cast the radio station to your Google Home and Nest Audio? Are the stations working on the TuneIn app itself? Also, what country are you located in?

Hi Muddi,

Yes, can cast to the best from my phone and also play it directly on the phone and windows machine.

I'm based in Adelaide, Australia'.

Hey Sparrow67,

To confirm, have you tried reaching out with TuneIn or the station itself to check with them if they are getting similar reports because the issue is isolated on a specific radio station only. Also, please provide the current firmware version of your Nest Hub Max.

Cheers,

Muddi

Hi Muddi,

As I can play the radio station on Android, IOS and Windows via the TuneIn app and natively on the ABC radio app. I think the issue sits within the Google environment, maybe they have a bispoke version of TuneIn on the nest. This issue occurs on both of my nest minis and Audios.

Hi Sparrow67,

Thanks for the information. I understand that you can listen and play the station from TuneIn and native app. However, since the issue is isolated on a specific station only there's a big chance that it has something to do with the station itself and not with Google as the device only relies on the provider or with our partners. Moving forward, I already forwarded this issue to the team and I'll update this thread as soon as I have more information to share.

Please send feedback on your device by saying, "Hey Google, send feedback" then followed by a brief description about the issue. It is best if you could replicate the issue first prior sending feedback so we can easily identify the issue.

Let me know once done.

Cheers,

Muddi

I'm in Brisbane and have all the issues above too. I think the issue is that somewhere in the back end the ABC Radio stations aren't configured correctly for each city. If I say play Double J, I get Double J Perth on Radio app. If I say play ABC News Radio on Radio App it says station not available. Google knows I'm in Brisbane but doesn't think ABC News Radio is available in Brisbane.

There are workarounds though:

Listen to ABC News Radio Sydney on iHeartRadio

Listen to Double J Brisbane on Tune in

Hello everyone,

Apologies for the delayed response. Checking back to see if everyone's concern is now resolved. Has anyone had the chance to contact ABC radio since this is a specific concern with them? How was it? If the issue persists, follow the steps below:

  1. If your speaker or display doesn't play the radio station you requested, be more specific with your query, or ask for the station in a different way, using name, frequency or call sign.
  2. If the request is not properly answered, try to add "on TuneIn" or “on iHeartRadio” to the query. Example: "Play ESPN Radio on TuneIn,” or "Play ESPN Radio on iHeartRadio."
  3. If the provided station is inaccurate when asking for frequency, try to add the name of a nearby city. Example: "Play 101.9 FM LA."

Cheers,

Dan

Hi,

Yes, the issue has been resolved, started working a few weeks ago on both TuneIn and Radio App.
