Both Nest Minis disconnect from wifi every few hour

Ever since we moved to a new internet provider, my two google nest mini devices connected perfectly fine to it, but a few hours later, i go to use them and they retort with "Hang on while i get connected to WiFi." I've performed 2 factory resets, switched then off and on again numerous times, and they keep connecting to the internet, but then disconnecting a few hours later.

I am getting increasingly fed up with these devices, and am contemplating moving to a different smart system that actually does as its told first time, and doesn't keep disconnecting from WiFi every 5 or 6 hours

@FoxChaotica

When you switched to your new internet provider, did you get a new Wi-Fi router with the change? If so, perhaps your Wi-Fi signal strength or bandwidth are not as good as what you had before. Or perhaps your new Wi-Fi router has a setting that's causing your Nest Minis to disconnect.

Google Nest does not seem to publish a set of guidelines on Wi-Fi settings, but you could try contacting Support (starting with the link below) to see if they can review your Wi-Fi settings.

My new router is a FRITZ!box 7530 AX, full fibre broadband at 900mbps, and every other smart device I have connected to WiFi works without any problems whatsoever, so I don't understand why the Google home mini and Google nest mini I have require turning off and on again to make them reconnect.

@FoxChaotica

I'm just another Google Nest customer, and do not know why moving to a FRITZ!box 7530 AX router and a new internet provider would cause problems with your Google Home Mini and Google Nest Mini and not your other devices, but perhaps there are Wi-Fi settings that are problematic for Google Nest devices.

Hello everyone,

Thanks for your assistance here, @MplsCustomer.

I want to check on your concern with your Google Nest Mini devices, @FoxChaotica. Please refer to the following recommended router settings below:

  • Channel interference (channel congestion from too many devices, optimal channels for 2.4GHz is 1, 6, or 11)
  • UPnP should be enabled.
  • AP Isolation and VPN or Proxy Server should be disabled.
  • confirm the distance between the router, setup device and Google Home are optimal.
  • MAC Filtering should not be enabled on the router.
  • Preferred DNS settings
    • 8.8.8.8
    • 8.8.4.4

You can also learn more about this using this support article.

Keep me posted.

Cheers,
Lovely
