Broadcast reply clip not playing voice reply

Heather07
Community Member

I've searched all posts and followed the instructions in replies, but when my children reply to my broadcast, the voice clip no longer plays on my Samsung galaxy S4.

Uninstalled Google Home and Assistant on my phone, all Google nest and Max are updated, been unplugged and restarted.

We have children with disabilities in the house and know their voice or words, and the transcript doesn't make sense sometimes as it doesn't understand the words.

Please help!

Hi Heather07,

This is not the experience we wanted you to have, let me help you. A few things: which Nest speakers are we working with? When did your issue begin? When did your issue begin? Were there any recent changes made?

Thank you for doing some troubleshooting steps before posting but, It would help a lot if you could do a sequential reboot instead:

  1. Unplug the power cord of your router/modem followed by your Nest speakers.
  2. Plug them back in after 3 minutes tops starting with your router/modem.
  3. Restarting your phone might also help.

Tell me how it goes.

Best,

Dan

Hi Dan,

Thanks for the reply.

I have 1 nest mini, 2 nest hubs, and 5 nest hub max devices.

Don't know when it actually started, but I found it a few weeks ago.

Everything has been rebooted (modem and devices) uninstalled, and removed, then added again.

My phone is Samsung Galaxy S22 (error in original post).

Hey there,

Thank you for the update. Please, check your Google Assistant app and your Google Home app if they're up-to-date. Let's also move one of your Nest speaker close to your router and the others away from it, try to broadcast using your Nest speakers only. Once done, use the Google Assistant on your phone to broadcast to each of your Nest speakers starting with the one closest to your router and tell me the difference.

Looking forward to your response.

Best,

Dan

I'm sorry, crazy kids and life.

It didn't help taking each one to the router and doing what you said.

None of them play the audio of the broadcast on my phone ☹️

I tired 2 other phones also, incase it was just mine, with no success.

I also removed, re-added, and set up some of the nest max displays again, still not working.

Also searched videos of how to fix this problem and followed those steps, much the same as advice here, still not working.

I've had my nest max displays for over 12 months, so can't return under warranty.

Anything further you think I can do?

Hey Heather07,

Apologize for the delays. Chiming in to ensure everything is covered here. To confirm, are you having the same issues when broadcasting from one speaker to another? Let's go ahead and try removing and re-adding your account from your phone to see if that makes any difference.

Keep us posted.

Cheers,

Muddi

So I've done the following...

Uninstalled the Home app from my phone and reinstalled it.

Updated all nest and home max devices.

Moved different max displays closer to the router and tried.

Removed them ALL from my home and then re-added them.

Tried the Home app with my account on different phones.

Nothing has worked.

The problem still remains, my phone won't play the voice clip of the reply.  If a child replies to a display, then all the displays play the voice. But not if I have broadcast via my phone, or they reply to the display.

It's doing my head in and out house isn't working so well without the voice component of the Google nest displays.

I dont know what my devices are, what is the model.  How do I find that out?  The display MAX were bought between 5 months and 2 years ago, and the nest speaker is just like 5 years old I think.

Hi Heather07,

Thanks for coming back to us. To confirm, are you able to hear the voice clip when someone broadcast to your phone? Also, Check this link to see what type of Google Home/Nest devices you have.

Hi Muddi,

I can hear a broadcast on the devices in the home, but NOT on my phone.  If a child replies to a device, then that device plays it.  If they reply to my phone, it will not play.

I'll check the device info above, and fill out the form completely.

thank you for everyone that is trying to help with my problem 😞
