Camera on Google Nest hub max not registering/working

Hello

The camera on my Nest Hub max stopped working so I completed a factory reset etc. Setup with everything is fine however when it comes to the camera setup after I scan the QR code I get to the 'finishing up this could take a while loading screen on the Google Home app. Then I get an error that says Something went wrong. Try connecting again. If that doesn't work, try rebooting your kitchen or turning your phone's airplane mode on and off before trying again. Done all these several times and have factory reset again. Still the same issue. From looking online I find alot of similar issues with little to no resolution.

Same problem. Please help!

Slightly more specifics ---

  • Home App on a Pixel
  • Click on the Nest Home App
  • Setup Camera Button
  • The QR code shows up on the display and I scan it
  • Home app in Pixel says it's finishing up for quite a while. Hub Max continues showing the QR code
  • Home app on Pixel eventually fails and says "Can't find assisting device." Or something like that.

Troubleshooting steps:

  • Have restarted both.
  • Verified both are on the same WiFi network
  • Verified I could ping the Hub Max from my phone
  • Hub Max Open Ports:
    • 8008
    • 8009
    • 8012
    • 8443
    • 9000
    • 10001
    • 10005
    • 10007
    • 10101
    • 11095
  • Same Google User logged in to Hub Max and Home app
  • Said nice things to both devices

What should I try next?

Hey folks,

Thanks for sharing details about the issue here. My apologies for the late response.

I know how challenging it is when you're having issues setting up the camera on your Google Nest Hub Max. I'd love to dig deeper into this issue. Please try setting up the Nest Hub Max's camera on a different home structure. Follow the steps below to know-how:

  1. Set up the Nest Hub Max's Nest Cam in a new Home in the Google Home app with a tap on the plus sign at the top left of the Google Home app and select Create new home.
  2. Remove old devices from the old Home first, before adding to the new one.
  3. Move current devices to the new Home, then delete the old Home in the Google Home app.

If you attempt to set up the same Nest Hub Max again:

  1. Remove the device from the old Home.
    1. Open the Google Home app .
    2. Tap the device Settings Unlink or Remove device Unlink or Remove.
  2. Perform a factory reset on Nest Hub Max. To do this, hold the volume up and volume down buttons for 10 seconds.

Let us know how it goes.

Cheers,

Muddi
